One Piece - Halfway Broken (29-32)
Added 2024-06-08 23:05:12 +0000 UTCAlright! Hit this release right on target! A solid 16,500 words of One Piece- Halfway Broken for you all, covering mostly the events of Drum Island (and a little travel/training time enroute to said). I almost made this an image post...right up until I realized the image would be a spoiler -_-. Come to that, there isn't a lot I can say that wouldn't spoil something inside, so...check the comments for author's notes if you want commentary ;-).
As always, the new portions of the story are attached here in both epub and pdf formats. I went ahead and posted the .docx this time too. I personally hate trying to read anything in that format, but there might be some weird sorts out there that like it that way? Anyway, I'll update the Pinned Post shortly, then get onto making those aforementioned author's notes...

An interesting thought ;-). in truth, only one of the additional abilities is currently locked in. I left the third one to give myself wiggle room if I end up realizing I need something. So thinking about what Kaya would influence it to have is a good thought...

2024-06-22 14:13:27 +0000 UTCThe Discovery being a growth item, and how you're portraying that, is pretty cool. That said, you mentioned it will "develop with the crew" and my first thought went to Kaya's Spirit abilities as she'd be the next most likely to be able to more directly interact with the ship after Luffy. Not entirely sure what impact her spin will add to the ship, but certainly can see the self-repair reflecting Luffy's desires.

2024-06-20 20:05:41 +0000 UTCYeah. I didn't explicitly bring it up since I was sort of zooming through the pre-canon years. But those were my thoughts on it, at least :-).

2024-06-14 22:38:08 +0000 UTCOh absolutely agree on the low starting power part, was more just wondering if that had happened in the story or not since it hadnβt been brought up as of yet π

2024-06-14 09:17:11 +0000 UTCSort of. Luffy is aware of the Nika Fruit, since he would have found it while going through the Mythical Zoan fruits he was interested in. He would even have noticed it bared a resemblance to the Gomu Gomu no Mi, and that said Fruit didn't appear in the list. The thing is, though, that he has no idea who 'Nika' is...and his System doesn't list Awakened abilities. That means that he knows the Gomu Gomu no Mi is really the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika...BUT the fruit looks super weak to him for a Mythical Zoan. Which, to be honest...is actually IS until it's awakened. Compare other known mythical Zoans like Marco and Kaidou, and even their basic unawakened abilities are spectacular. Whereas the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika is actually pretty yawn worthy at first brush. At best, it can be used to remake Luffy's Gears, but those fall under 'creative uses of a Devil Fruit' rather than an inherent feature. Much like Whitebeard cracking air being a creative use of the Quake Quak Fruit. The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika honestly only becomes something really good once it's been awakened, and Luffy doesn't have a clue about its awakened abilities. Until then, it's actually kinda shit by Mythical Zoan standards and he wouldn't have thought twice about skipping it.

2024-06-14 09:15:24 +0000 UTCHey been smashing through the chapters since last night and caught up to the public releases so decided to join your Patreon to read more as Iβm enjoying the story a bunch but I had a question, does Luffy know that the Gum Gum fruit isnβt a real fruit from his time looking through the spirit fruit list and did he see the Nika fruit in the list at all? Cause it might make a good little realisation for him that he could have gotten a mythical zoan* from shanks rather than just a paramecia

2024-06-14 08:13:21 +0000 UTCI have no idea what you're asking. If you mean can I put the text in the post, no. The formatting doesn't survive when I do that. If you need the story translated, you can always just drop the word document in Google Translate: https://translate.google.com/;?sl=auto&tl=en&op=docs

2024-06-09 00:51:01 +0000 UTCChapter 32: A/N 1: Chopper! So, the recruitment angle on him changed. Kureha was/is far more impressed with this crew than she was with the canon Strawhats. They aren't pirates just yet, have a pair of Spirit Healers, outright killed Wapol, and overall simply represent a much less dicey chance for her student. Even so, without the Karmic event, Luffy might have struggled to appeal enough to Chopper to get him to leave. Triggering that helped him, since Kureha wouldn't dismiss Chopper's skills to a group of Chopper's own peers. This leaves Chopper with the knowledge that what he really needs is more practical experience in a wider set of environments...and there is an opportunity at hand to get it. A/N 2: The Discovery! Surprise! It's being a Growth Item means it's going to develop with the crew...though I imagine quite a few people realize that. Here we see the first phase of that happening. What other abilities it will develop I will leave a mystery for now ;-).

2024-06-08 23:38:12 +0000 UTCChapter 31 A/N: So, to be brutally honest here, Luffy is overpowered for this early section of the Grand Line. Crocodile is a serious threat to him, but none of the Agents really are. Yet, I didn't want to be boring and leave out action entirely. So I took this as a chance to show off how far members of the crew I haven't showcased as much have come. Nami and Usopp got a chance to shine a little bit. And we got a more accurate feel for how far along Zoro is. He's already reached the point he wouldn't have been at until Skypeia in canon, possibly even being a touch stronger than that given he knows a little bit of Haki. Sanji, meanwhile, has rapidly picked up Soru and Geppo. Showing that, no, despite some fans fears, I'm not making him weak. He just has some catching up to do because he joined after the others had done some seriously hardcore training.

2024-06-08 23:30:45 +0000 UTCChapter 30 A/N: Hina! So...butterfly effect! The Strawhats were never going to escape the butterfly effects at least changing some events. And this one is one of the first big ones we see on the Grand Line. Hina's Patrol Flotilla was based around Alabasta (we know this as she's the one that was called in to try and contain Luffy and Co from escaping). That means even the tiniest shift, say someone managing to call out from Drum before Blackbeard killed them, would/could result in her ships responding. They wouldn't have had any way to know they were jumping into a fight with a New World Veteran, since they are in the early chunks of Paradise. Hence the result we see here...

2024-06-08 23:25:42 +0000 UTCChapter 29 A/N 1: So...Little Garden is a risk I just can't see someone with knowledge of it actually taking. Too much luck involved in not losing a crewmember, even if you head straight to Drum right after. Given a choice, Luffy was always going to avoid it. Particularly as the only real purpose it served was to introduce giants and Mr.3. A/N 2: Anti-climactic Wapol. Frankly, the crew has grown too strong for Wapol to really threaten. I also couldn't see Luffy taking someone eating part of the Discovery at all well. His death rather than just defeat will play into something important later, anyway. A/N 3: Compressed timeline. The longer I looked at the events surrounding Drum, the more questions I had. I've watched that far in the anime at least twice, and always got the impression that Wapol had been gone for a while. Yet...that just doesn't fit. We know Ace was chasing after Blackbeard and the crew catches up to Ace in Alabasta. That means Ace had to have been on Drum pretty recently...and he can't have been THAT far behind Blackbeard. Since Blackbeard's attack is what caused Wapol to flee, the longer I looked at it, the more it actually seems to have been pretty damn recent. Given that the crew is a couple of weeks early, too, I figured them arriving only just barely after Ace left fit the information we actually have.
