Can One Displaced Hero Save the Galaxy? (37-39)

Whew! The writing on this was done yesterday, but I only just got the editing done a few minutes ago. Still pretty close to the usual release time, and over 16,500 words. So I think I did fairly well :-). This time, we've got a little bit of action, mixed with more buildup of the options for ships and industry, plus a small moment or two of more personal interaction.

ALSO, if you're not already aware. There is an ongoing poll regarding the relationship for Displaced Hero! Make sure you vote!

Anyway, as always, the new content is attached here in both PDF and Epub formats. I'll be updating the pinned post with the new Master Files shortly. And adding some chapter comments/author's notes as comments to this post! Enjoy!

*Edit - Forgot I was going to include some links so people could better imagine they armor they are using. I've always hated the bulky armor of Star Wars. Like, 20,000 years or more of wars, and the best you can do is strap on the sci-fi equivalent of platemail? The armor the Shattered Shackle (Plus Izuku) is using is much more streamlined, closer to something from Mass Effect like this. Or, honestly, like this would be even better. Though that last I wish had a shot from the front. Much better maneuverability, but requires exotic materials like Phrik to make it protective enough. Explaining the difference between their armor and most of the Star Wars armor. *

Hmmm, that could work. Or something like it at least. It's a good suggestion. As to where they currently are in the timeline, it's near the end of 29 BBY at the end of the current chapter set. Izuku arrived early(ish) in 31 BBY. So it's been around 2.5 years since his arrival. It took quite some time to build up their business empire. Of which I've only shown bits and pieces. As well as find all the people they needed to get the Shattered Shackles going.

Most likely, yes. She could probably learn a bit from the Fallanasi, and they from her. Same with the Disciples of Twilight, who also have some illusion skills. Really, the Jedi and Sith are odd in their lack of skill in that area. Or perhaps not, as those two orders were never about hiding. They were sort of loud and in your face for most of their history. Up until Banes Rule of Two with the Sith, at least. Even then, the only skill they really picked up was hiding their Force Presence. Which the Jedi Shadows could also do. Jedha is an interesting place, not just for the Kyber and Fallansai. There's also the Guardians of the Whills there, which use a lightbow and have some other skills. It's entirely possible they might end up there at some point. Hmmm, I don't think she has. I don't think I've actually had them interact just yet. So if she has, the nickname hasn't appeared...which means I haven't had to think of it yet ;-).

Nope. Part of the reasons the N-1 are so good is BECAUSE they have a hyperdrive. An outright Class 1 drive, too. Shields, hyperdrives, proton torpedo launchers, dual blasters, and some pretty insane maneuverability. They aren't as fast as the Jedi Delta-7 Aethersprite. But the Delta-7 actually doesn't exist quite yet. It was designed by Blissex and revealed right before the Clone Wars. As of the current point in the timeline, N-1's a pretty much the best pure dogfighters in the galaxy (that we know about). Though, to be fair, a lot of that is because they are: 1) Really new. The King directly before Padme commissioned them, and did so only fairly near the end of his time as King. The design is probably less than a decade old, possibly as little as 3 years or so, at the time of Episode 1. 2) They are EXTREMELY expensive by Starfighter Standards. A Z-95 costs 80,000 credits brand new. An N-1? 200,000. Hell, even the Aethersprite will only be 180,000 when it comes out. And it will be the cutting edge elite KDY starfighter when it's released. You get what you pay for, and Naboo shelled out for a pretty ridiculous Starfighter design. One they intended to be an escort for their, usually unarmed, diplomatic vessels. Hence the hyperdrive. 3) They got Nubia Star Drives involved with the creation of the N-1. While the final design was done by the Theed Palance Space Vessel Engineering Corps, a lot of the hardware is Nubian. And Nubia Star Drives is, as I mentioned in one of the chapters, well known for sublight engines and spaceframes. As for the Russan reform. I think Starfighters are only of the only things no restricted much, as they can't take and hold territory. Which is also why the TF uses vulture swarms. Since they aren't restricted, the TF decided a carrier was the best solution to more legal firepower. Even if they cheaped out on the vulture design. The N-1 also isn't without flaws. The fact they only have dual blasters and focus on maneuverability/speed makes them a bit poor as ground attack craft. And the blasters don't have a lot of punch. A variant of the N-1 that is introduced later improves the firepower of the dual blasters as a partial solution.

Novus Peregrine

Aren't the N-1s that Naboo uses ones without hyperdrives? I thought I remembered reading somewhere that they were so good that they couldn't actually have a hyperdrive under the Ruusan Reforms? For some reason I thought it wasn't until the clone war era/imperial era that they got modified to include a hyperdrive? (Actually wasn't the jedi fighter with the separate hyperdrive ring a thing for similar reasons, with the ring being a thing specifically allowed for the jedi craft to have or something?) I Like the H-6 bomber, and the fact that you're bringing attention to the fact that Nubian craft come from a separate planet from Naboo. Read multiple fics where Nubian is used to describe the people of Naboo due to the Queen's ship being Nubian.

Ok now I am going to have to google the Cularian system. (And I for one like the info dumps to a degree, they give a bit more crunch and substance to the world)

What about labeling the chapter with the time range? Like x-month to x-month or "x-month, year to x-month, year" to show the spread of time events in the chapter happen during, but not precisely when within that range each happens. It would prevent confusion from overlaps and simultaneous events and trying to mesh them to specific times, but would give some sense of how things are lining up against the canon timeline (even if the canon timeline is completely shot- especially if there is never a Battle at Yavin to base a timeline off of in this story). Even if the time stamp is Stated specifically as ××BBY-Equivalent it would allow for knowing how old various canon-characters are, how close they may be to certain milestones and the like (Amidala becoming Senator being one example, as she is still queen in this update). I personally wouldn't mind a reference to how long Izuku has been in this galaxy. Maybe Aayla doing something for their "anniversary" of the day they met? I just have completely lost track of how long he has been in the galaxy overall, not to mention how long since he/they Started the businesses. I don't have a sense of how fast, or slow, their development of the anti-slavery efforts have grown (both business and actual mercenary group). Maybe a supplemental timeline document seperate from the story would be the best approach to giving that info out? Whether that timeline is just a broad strokes placement of when each chapter starts/ends, or a more detailed break down of each major scene in the timeline, each could give perspective.

Ah, makes sense- hadn't realized the illusions as a specialty of dathomir. Though now I wonder, if you have them visit the mid-rim "world" (it's a moon) Jedha whether Allaya would, first off even be able to learn from the Fallanasi (they're also able to create illusions), and if so if she'd more quickly pick up any of their techniques (one of which, the Similfuturus, was used by Luke to appear in the "sequel trilogy" to distract Kylo Ren). Jedha also has extremely high amounts of Kyber crystal deposits, and many different force-worshipping groups if you want to add even more variation in force training, practices, etc. And leaving aside callsigns or hero names or any of that.. has Mei given Allaya a nickname yet? I cannot remember (or maybe just didn't associate it) if she has yet. I like Mei's nicknames (and got a good laugh in this update from them).

Keht Jelicho

They think she's hot at least ;-). They haven't had a chance to get to know her much, yet. It's a start, though...particularly when the Senate needs someone to deal with the chaos the building anti-slavery forces are eventually going to cause. The ES-23 is original to this story. It's so far the only ship I've just made up entirely, so no image for it exists. The Turbostorm Gunship DOES exist in the EU. Unfortunately, it only ever appeared in books and audiobooks, so I there isn't any art of it so far as I know. I've been mulling over how to deal with the timestamp thing. Given how often I skip forward a bit, labeling chapters wouldn't be enough. And labeling sections seems a bit overkill? I've been sort of trying to figure out a good way to handle it, but haven't settled on a solution yet...

Novus Peregrine

That makes a few assumptions which won't hold up as far as the start of the clone wars ;-). Who says they will still only have one planet by then...

Novus Peregrine

Ehhh, I don't see Hero Names going over well in Star Wars. Callsigns for fighters or operational leaders, sure. But that's honestly just as confusion at times. For the most part I'm intending to just keep Allaya and Aayla apart most of the time. I couldn't here as I explicitly wanted to show her having some Force skills the Jedi don't really use. Part of bringing in some of the people I have is so that, long-term, the group has more diverse Force training than the Jedi offer. Such as illusions, which are a Dathomiri special.

I hate Google Docs. I actually use Word to write with, as I find Google Docs super awkward. I've actually mentioned before that I highly recommend reading the Epub version. I provide PDF's because they will open on anything. Probably even a sufficiently advanced toaster. But most epub readers (there are dozens of good free ones out there. And technically even kindle will read them, though the process of loading them is annoying) have a lot better features and readability. I don't use the Patreon App at all, as it's utter junk. You should be able to download the files, and PDF's read fine in most browsers. Though I'd still recommend an epub reader.

Thanks for the chapters! Most interesting with their new planet and growing expansion! And its great to see them meeting Padme! It sounded like both Izuku and Aayla are interested in her! Very nice to hear! On other matters, I have not been able to find out what the ES-23 medium freighters and the Turbostorm-class Gunships look like. Any directions to where I should look for pictures of them would be appreciated! And on a different matter, it would be nice to have a mention of the year we are at in the story, like at the start of a chapter or section it could say something like: 27 BBY, 'Wandering Fate' Modified GX1 Short Hauler. Something to give a sense of when and where we are. Thanks again for your great work! Looking forward to reading much more of this great story!

Buying that non-republic planet is probably going to be a pretty huge deal for the future separatist war. The Separatists would want them for the large blooded and tested armada based out of that planet. Dooku would not want them because they aren't incompetent and would be quite resistant to attempts to render them such due to getting direction from the force. The Republic wouldn't want them to join the Seps, but the illegal ships would make it difficult to make them a member of the Republic. I forsee many diplomats and assassins converging on the planet the closer war comes.

Could you use Izuku and Mei as a basis for "Hero Names" or Call signs or something being used? Just had the thought that something like it might help with the Allaya/Aayla situation. Would still be using a canon character, just would help clarify scenes like the Assault where both are involved in the same combat scene. Plus using codenames and such might help keep the jedi involvement quieter for longer/keep their business identities separate from the slave-raider identities so their businesses are not specifically targetted in response to their activities.

Why do you share these as pdfs? Every other person I’m Patreoning uses google docs to share cause it allows people reading to highlight spelling and grammar errors, I noticed a few with this release By using pdfs there’s no real way for me to point out issues until the public release Also I read this stuff on iPad and using the Patreon app only opens the pdf as a window that’s about a quarter the size of my screen

Loved the chapters keep up the amazing work.

Chapter 39 A/N: Oddly, the Munifex-class exists, was apparently heavily used by the Trade Defense Fleet...but doesn't show up in the Clone Wars really at all. Even more oddly, it DOES pop back up during the Imperial Era. The conclusion I came to was that part of the Senate's order to disarm must have included the ships, and the TF didn't see them as worth trying to save. Then KDY must have revamped the design and started building them again during the Imperial Era? Regardless, they seem to be a pretty nice little light-cruiser. More of a frigate really. Which was a solid step up for them. A/N 2: Shil Tervo exists in the EU, but we barely know anything about him other than that he was a friend of Blissex the elder, consulted for him, and originally designed the GX1. I took all of that and added to it to give us a not-entirely-OC designer to work on their first true capital ship design. Which won't actually be seen for at least a couple of updates...

Chapter 38 A/N: Mwhahaha? Tythe is something I always intended to happen as they grew. It's abandonment by LiMerge Power is canon, as are the reasons. Though little more is known about it. A/N 2: So...the N-1! I decided to have them seek out that ship for a couple of reasons. One is that it's simply a good ship. As the current point in the timeline, it's one of the Premier dogfighting starfighters in the galaxy. Costs a whole lot, but the results mean that a single squadron of them was able to wade through five or six times their number of Vultures. Even if it took Anakin's bit of Force-Luck to bring down the Droid Control Ship, the N-1 squadron was doing well against the actual fighters. And pretty much every other time we see them actually fight, they performed well. The other reason, honestly...is that I wanted them to meet Padme. Only in passing, for now. But they at least know each other exist. Given the Theed Palace Space Vessel Engieering Corps is actually behind the N-1, it was a good chance to have them at least encounter each other.

Chapter 37 A/N: I admit, this chapter is a bit more of an info dump than I'd have liked. Even after reworking it a bit from it's original writeup. At the same time, I'm trying not to get us too hung up on all the little details. Which means compressing information a bit. A/N 2: The ships named all exist (excepting the E-23). With the Fang, as well as the N-1 and H-6 which are mentioned in the other chapters, pictured in the post. Technically, a picture of the Munifex-class exists. But I refuse to accept it, since the picture doesn't remotely match it's listed size and armaments. And the vanishing of the Cularian system is a thing that happened. This time, it just happened to happen while some of the Almas Jedi were away...
