Displaced Hero - Relationship Poll

May the 4th be with you! And...a perfect day for this, I guess!

-Cracks Knuckles-

-Cringes and apologizes to the people that hate that noise-

Alright, folks! Time to tackle a topic I've touched on a tiny bit in various comments. A couple of times here, and quite a few more times in response to comments/reviews on Fanfiction, Scribblehub, and Questionable Questing. Specifically, the exact nature of the relationship in Can One Displaced Hero Save a Galaxy? First, just as an important point of clarification:

Aayla and Izuku will remain together. Period.

They are the 'core pairing' for this fic, you could say. The topic, as such, becomes essentially the same discussion that was already had for One Piece - Halfway Broken. Does this story remain as just Aayla/Izuku, or does it become a multiship? Just as I did with One Piece - Halfway Broken, I will farther explicitly shoot down any idea of a large-scale harem. Yeah, there are tons of sexy aliens in Star Wars that would be fun to explore. I'm aware the internet is for porn, too! Buuuutttt, this story is more Plot than Porn, and I do not believe it is possible for me to juggle more than 2-3 extra girls in a pairing, without dragging the story pacing down a lot. I've seen even some otherwise spectacularly good author's stumble trying to manage large harems, and I'm just not going there.

Unlike One Piece - Halfway Broken, with Displaced Hero I'm also pretty wide open in who I would consider adding. Well, so long as they are female and from Star Wars, at least. I've zero interest in writing Male/Male content. I've nothing against it, mind you. It's just not something I care to write (or read). Futa characters are a grey area I'm technically willing to write, but probably won't add to this particular story without a compelling argument. Regardless, the fact I'd be open to ideas of who to add, doesn't mean I'll agree with any particular addition. Just that I'd be open to people's arguments and reasoning more than with Halfway Broken.

Yes, Mei is a strong possible addition if this goes Multiship. I specifically left the door open for that. Other options I can personally envision adding would be Shaak Ti, Padme/A Handmaiden, Nikkila (the recently introduced Mikkian OC), a Mandalorian, a Zeltron, or even Shmi. Literally JUST to fuck with Anakin on that last one, while technically helping him. So probably not a good enough justification? But it's unbelievably tempting. (Particularly as Shimi's actually only around 36 at this point in the timeline). Also, obviously not all of those at once. See previous comment about a limit of 2-3 additional girls (not counting Aayla).

So, long story short!

------------------

Do you want to see Displaced Hero as a single main pairing? (Izuku/Aayla)

or

Would you prefer it to turn into a multiship? (Izuku/Aayla/?/?/?)

------------------

Note: This only reflects the main characters pairing for the story. There will almost certainly be other couples throughout the fic.

Padme is definitely a tempting option for a lot of reasons. Though I don't think the Force would punish Anakin for his fall. Unlike the potential future destruction of Alderaan, nothing Anakin ever did (even as Vader) would have really wounded the Force. Removed some of its minions? Sure. But on the scale of the Cosmic Force, I doubt it cares much about the Jedi Order. And Vader had nothing to do with the destruction of Alderaan. That was all Tarkin. Vader was honestly just a glorified enforcer for Palpatine, who never really instigated much on his own. By Sith standards, Vader wasn't actually very destructive.

I would prefer a multi paring partially because mei so far has head good chemistry with them. Also I love the idea of Padma joining them because she would also have great chemistry with them but her reactions to the craziness would be hilarious. The idea of the force itself punishing Anakin for this fall and part in injuring it would also be a great point of dramatic irony.

While I absolutely can see where it would work with at least Aayla's personality...I actually really dislike writing relationships like that. It really doesn't add anything to the actual story in most cases, instead really just being an excuse for smut. As such, it's unlikely I'll do it that way :-). The Mei thing specifically thought is actually something I've considered. Essentially trying my hand at her being Aromantic but not Asexual. I'm unsure I actually understand the mindset well enough to write it, though. And thanks for the compliment ;-).

Yeah, I could see Izuku and Aayla, later on once they are both more secure in their own skins/identities/situations and also by extension their relationship, that then they could choose to spice up their relationship by bringing others in. Especially with their bond sharing and if they both realize they find the same other person attractive .. or maybe both respond to seduction attempts on the both of them from some suave confident smuggler/merc/whatever woman who sees them (while they're under cover?) And she just goes "I want some of that" and decides to seduce Izuku and Aayla and that opens up the door for them and gets them talking about bringing others in

That would admittedly be funny...

Ah, fair enough. Both on the mild autism and the perspective of Mandalorians. I cannot make appropriately informed comments on autism (unless they have added ADD/ADHD to its broad umbrella) so I cannot really add more on that topic. And I only brought up Bo-Katan/Mandalorians due to a mandalorian being mentioned in the poll description. Though, Deathwatch would definitely be a target for Izuku and as such I can imagine a scenario where he defeats Pre and takes the Dark Saber as he runs off to the next fight/because the force tells him to take it. All without realizing the significance. Said scenario amuses me to imagine, even if it's something that will never happen in the story.

Think it would be interesting to have mei join the pairing plua maybe padme could see them all bringing in different things to tge relationship and towards tge groups goals in general

I admit, Padme is an extremely tempting one. Canon sort of did her dirty in a lot of ways. And her relationship with Anakin is all sorts of melodramatic disaster -_-. There's even an easy vector since they are in the process of expanding their trade lanes with one that will cross right through Naboo...and there's certain things on Naboo that they could REALLY use. Like an extremely good starfighter design...and some of the Gungan tech. Some seriously, seriously, underutilized tech from the Gungans...

Novus Peregrine

Ah, I think you actually mostly picked up on the fact that I intentionally wrote Mei as mildly autistic. I'm high-functioning autistic myself (walk into basically any software engineering department and you'll realize like 60%+ of the people actually getting things done there are), and old enough to have overcome any obvious sign of it. But I very much understand it enough to write it into Mei. Given how her canon version acts, it's somewhat common to see authors do that. Though it's usually...painful for me to read a bunch of obviously-not-autistic-authors write wild caricatures of how people with it act. When their entire understanding of it comes from watching Big Bang Theory and Rainman -_-. It honestly sounds like you've got a similar hodgepodge view of the Mandalorians as me. My concern is that said hodgepodge doesn't line up with what people expect now that wildly popular shows like The Mandalorian, Star Wars: Rebels, Ahsoka, and even The Clone Wars cartoon portray them. It SORT OF does. It's pretty blatantly obvious that Dave Filoni cribbed pretty much everything he did regarding them from older works, then just cut and diced at it until it fit his personal vision better. But I don't know how well people would react to a version that doesn't watch what they 'know' about Mandalorians now. I'm not dismissing using them. It's just a matter of how much I want to do so and how deep I want to get into the weeds with them and their culture...

Novus Peregrine

I could see them about being surprisingly casual about sleeping with others, like having people come into their lives and then leave. An example would be Padme or a handmaiden, or a mandilorian that they often hook up when they meet each other but with the understanding of how chaotic things get there can’t be a promise of a full commitment. That way you can test who you want in the relationship and then later on you can friend zone/other relationship/kill off as needed. Mei on the other hand is interesting because she is definitely around almost always. I could see her being with the two of them with the relationship being intimate but not fully romantic. Like her being with them but some days shoo them off to be together as she works on her babies. No mater what you do I will love the direction you take this because you are a great writer.

Definitely from Displaced, as it's been ages since I really paid much attention to MHA (and even then I didn't stay with it long, and it was the manga scanslation before there was the anime, and only have seen the first few episodes) so couldn't say if Canon would give that vibe. I think the biggest part is how she was introduced in the first place, that she was so desperate to try and find him that she forced her way into a new dimension, and yet her thoughts weren't of a lost love or opportunity for love, but rather just someone who understood her and accepted her for who she is (or that is the general feeling of what stuck with me about it) and that just seemed like something I have heard and/or read from Aro/Ace people, particularly from those who had not consciously realized that aspect of themselves. And Aro/ace doesn't necessarily always mean non-affectionate. At least from what I have seen/experienced. Ah, asking now makes much more sense. I have to admit that my familiarity with Bo-Katan in particular, and Mandalorians to a lesser more in general degree are primarily from fanfictions. I have Played Kotor (never got far in Swtor, not a big fan of MMOs), have seen bits of The Mandolorian (think I got two-thirds or more through first season when it first released before Disney+ subscription had a hiccup and haven't gotten back to it since), have watched some of the Clone Wars, and have done enough wookipedia searches to have a general understanding. But really, for me, Bo-Katan is just the sister of the foolishly idealistic Satine, and a woman who did not want to let go of her warrior culture/heritage and aligned with Death Watch due to that, and possibly because of Pre having the Dark Saber/being able to claim the position of Mandalore. I think she and her Night Owls might have split from Death Watch when they attacked Mandalorian or something? I am not really sure. Basically she is a "Badass Warrior Woman" and anything where she gets away from/prevents her engaging with Death Watch and still allows her to be a Badass Warrior Woman, yet honorably so, would have my interest/approval. My overall impression of Mandalorians is from the bits about the True Mandalorians/Super Commando Codex and such that I know. The hierarchy of Duty, the importance of children/foundlings, the openness of the society for anyone to be Mando if they're willing to embrace what it means to be mando. I know they have rites of adulthood involving solo hunts of dangerous beasts, their armor colors have meaning, and etc other minor bits. But as far as really knowing about madalorians as a society, we'll it isn't just the recent canon that has drastically changed things with them to my knowledge. Pretty sure various authors writing about them even in the EU wrote sometimes conflicting accounts. They kind of feel like they were never really fleshed out fully, and really just had a series of bullet point like factoids that different authors could attach to their own frameworks.

Keht Jelicho

Its a bit of personal preference and from reading this story "Displaced Hero" so far! But I hope to see Izuku, in addition to Aayla, be in a relationship with Mei(because as bcall092 says, she did traverse dimensions to get to him!) and Padme(Because I love her character and it has much more potential than what was used in canon and I would ant her to have a better future then her canon self!)!

Aeden Emrys

So, bit of a question for you. Do you get those vibes from Mei in her canon iteration? Or just from Displaced Hero. If it's the latter, that was sort of half intentional, as I deliberately muddled the waters to leave things open by making her simultaneously huggy/cuddly while also having Aayla make the confused comment about her seeming to be more in lust with the ship than anything. I essentially deliberately left vectors for both a sexual vibe and a Aro/Ace vibe in order to not lock in the choice before I could ask everyone about it ;-). Also, a quick clarification for both you specifically and anyone else that reads the comments. Any additional girls won't be added immediately. Essentially, I'm asking NOW because things have reached a point where I need to begin organically integrating any possible additions. Building them up over plenty of in-universe time so they don't just come out of nowhere and feel forced. I'm a fan of healthy, stable relationships, not the whirlwind Disney princess crap. I have extremely mixed emotions about the Mandalorians. Even more so Bo-Katan. I actively dislike the butchery that the recent live action shows and cartoons have done to them. Their Legends/EU iterations were far, far better and more interesting. The current canon everything is basically a gutted, mutilated and watered down reworking of what the EU authors had made of them. Any version of them I use is going to lean far more on the EU than canon for their culture, drawing from both the books and the Kotor/Swtor series of games. Which makes me a little...leery...of using Bo-Katan specifically. The material she's been in is popular, even if I'm not a big fan, so if I use her and end up not adhering to what people expect...

Novus Peregrine

I kind of get Aro/Ace vibes from Mei, buy I could easily see her as still being a platonic partner due to how close she is to Izuku and how well Aayla seems to be getting along with her too. That said, Mei is really the only other one I could see with Izuku and Aayla, especially any time soon. They seem too much in a "figuring things out" stage to realistically and healthily add anyone else in the immediate future. And not just "figuring things out" with regards to their relationship- but everything they've been setting up, still some to the galaxy as a whole for izuku, and within the Jedi order for Aayla. They seem to be mostly coasting on their bond and in the "honeymoon" period of their relationship. Though, when you mentioned a Mandalorian my mind went immediately to Bo-Katan. Not necessarily as a partner romantically or sexually, but possibly as a trainer or something? Honestly this whole organization Izuku is wanting to build, that's to some degree what I felt an honorable purpose for Mandalorians to take up arms for. If Izuku spoke Mando'a/the organization was taught it/saw itself as one family/clan then it would almost be able to be labeled as a new Clan if they somehow joined Mandalorian society.

Keht Jelicho

Absolutely!! it would be a tragedy not to include her

Gildogfish

I think Mei deserves to be included in the relationship. She did after all traverse dimensions to get to him
