Time for another Halfway Broken release! A pretty large one, at that! As in, it's just barely shy of 17,000 words! I really wanted to actually get into the canon timeline proper, so I pushed fairly hard with this story this month, and chapter 21 does just that!

Mind you, a lot of the events of East Blue aren't going to even vaguely resemble canon, since virtually all of the big players were taken out before the canon timeline started. But still, we're now fully past the point of the series start, which means you can expect the time skips to slow down and more day-to-day life of the crew to be covered. That's only starting to happen slowly, in this release, since as I said the East Blue has a lot of its content already taken care of. But by the time we hit the Grand Line it will have fully slowed down to the island-by-island format that the series itself uses. As opposed to the rampant timeskipping I used to cover whole months or years prior to the events of Season 1.

As with the most recent My Hero Automata release, this release has some author's notes for the chapters that I'm going to put in the comments. Though they are actually less spoilery than the MHA ones. Mostly just explanations for things I know people might have questions about. In large part because their ship was finally revealed ;-)...

As always, the new content is attached here, and I will update the Master Files in the pinned post shortly. Though probably after I add those aforementioned comments.

Yep! Kaya is, if I have my way, going to be the sort of dangerous that none of their enemies even realize IS dangerous until they make the terrible, terrible mistake of actually forcing her to fight. It's always the quiet ones... Huh, you know I actually completely missed the potential for her to mess around with Crystallization of metals? Thanks for bringing that up, since it 100% makes sense for her and Luffy to figure out down the road, once she has better control of her Fruit Power. And, as you pointed out, could lead to some natural/logical upgrades. As for the animal people, I don't know the specific example, but they were probably Mink. A New World race/species that only occasionally leave their island. Several of them are on various pirate crews. I have to admit, I had to spend several hours researching both catamarans and naval guns. I ultimately used two existing catamarans (The Hemisphere - Largest Sailing Catamaran in the world, and the 49M Sunreef Super Yacht) as templates of sorts. The Discovery doesn't exactly match either of them. She's slightly larger than even the 49M (which is a powered ship) but uses some details I could figure out from it for how the cabins and such are located. While the Hemisphere served as a guide to what a sailing catamaran might look like. The Main Deck/Pilothouse are modeled somewhat off the Hemisphere's, for example. I'll likely eventually try to make a sketch of the ship and its layout, but haven't gotten there yet. Likewise, I had to do a lot of research on what was feasible for the guns. I eventually settled on something that's somewhere between a QF 4-Inch Naval Gun and a 4-inch/50-caliber gun. The end result I settled on looks (or I picture it as looking) more like the 4-inch/50 or 4-inch/40 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4-inch/50-caliber_gun) but uses stats from the QF series guns, since I decided 16 feet long was a bit too insane. The QF series were Britisth WWI/WWII deck guns and the 33-caliber (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QF_4-inch_naval_gun_Mk_XXIII) was mostly used as a Submarine Deck gun, hence the shorter barrel. I used its stats, then scaled them back a bit, assuming that Luffy couldn't reproduce something quite as good as an entire British Naval Design team, even with help from exotic metals. As for Sanji and Nojiko... *looks shifty and makes a 'shhh' gesture* ;-)

Hah, looking forward to seeing how Nojiko goes... though as she is unattached, was mentioned as being a flirt in Alex's memories of the show, and Sanji's flirting with her... now I am wondering what those two might get up to (whether as a couple or just friends who both flirt/tease, I am imagining the two tag-teaming various people and couples)

I think Kaya may actually be one of the most interesting characters so far, in development potential at least. The possibilities for her powers and possible roles seem almost as broad as Luffy's system-enhanced possibilities (at least compared to the other current crew). Given the proper time to grow, learn, discover, and master the various possibilities of Spiritual Energy techniques she will be a Monster in her own right. And those Spiritual Energy techniques alone give a huge possible range of roles she could fill/abilities she could use, but you add in the Martial Art/"Ty Lee" anti-haki/-Energy (anti-fruit?) style of combat and she has the potential to become an absolute night terror (skip nighmare) to the top names who rely too much on those abilities that she can restrict/seal/paralyze/nullify/etc. I look forward to seeing her grow. Nojiko's Fruit seems interesting, but you need to get her helping Luffy in his metallurgy, the different crystalline interior structures of various alloys and metals would be a fantastic way to both lead to upgrades for the ship and various weapons, but also help her on the way to full mastery of her fruit. Plus blue diamonds I believe can act as conductors (other diamonds act as insulators) not to mention the possibilities of bullet-proof crystal windows (also would help hold up against storms I would think). Basically I am just thinking up other practical/utilitarian possibilities for using her ability. Heck even just making Fine Crystal drink ware, and etc could give the crew an eternal luxury good to sell. Oh, and crystal lenses, they could possibly create their own spyglasses or even scopes for their rifles. (Lasers also use lenses, not that I expect any kind of sci-fi laser guns or anything, but I just had a random snippet of a scene where some cat like person, I remember seeing some animal-like people in the few snips of the show/books I have seen- though idk if any in canon are cats, was distracted by a laser pointer dot... though having cats I know a simple reflection off a piece of glass, or my phones screen, or a small mirror, can be just as fun to distract a cat with) The ship sounds cool, and I actually had to Google sailing catamarans to get even a vague idea of what to picture (I really had only seen the racing ones a few times on TV, and the ones from Moana for the most part, so needed a better reference both for something as large as you were talking about, and having multiple decks) I am glad you mentioned the WW1/2 Submarine deck guns, I have seen a few movies with them and that gave me a better idea of what to picture.

Chapter 21 A/N: Honestly not a lot to say here since I covered the ship in the Chapter 20 ANs. I will say, however, that this chapter is closer to what you'll start seeing more of in the future. That is to say, more personal interactions, broken up by bits of combat or training. This is sort of a transition chapter to start slowing down the rapid time skips and shift things that direction.

Chapter 20 A/N 1: Kaya! So, I've seen Kaya taken along before in other fics. But I wanted to do something different with her here, as she's usually barely more than a tag along to give warm fuzzies between her and Usopp. I've taken the time to set her up over several releases as exactly what I've revealed her to be here. A nascent Priestess/Miko. The Island mentioned is from one of the movies I haven't seen, so I was working off of the wiki information regarding it. But Kaya's actual abilities are being pulled from a variety of sources. Within one piece, there are unexplained abilities, such as Miss Goldenweek's Color's Trap ability. Not to mention some of the Devil Fruits that imply things like Voodoo exist in the One Piece world. A lot of these are being drawn together, then sprinkled with some typical Shrine Maiden type powers like Paper Seals/Wards/Tags. Add in a dose of Martial Arts inspired by Ty Lee from Avatar the Last Airbender and you have a general idea of my long-term plans for her. A/N 2: Nojiko's Devil Fruit. This Fruit is, so far as I'm aware, 100% original to me. Oh, there are similar powers in other series of course, but this isn't (so far as I know) a Fruit that exists in One Piece. I did, as the chapter implies, seriously consider several DFs that are already known. But none of them quite fit. I was trying to create a unique fighting style for Nojiko to help her stand out as more than a background crew member. The Crystal-Crystal Fruit was my solution, as it offers her a solid power up that will make her a fairly unique fighter, without overpowering her. The Fruit is also generally in-line with the power level of a good Paramecia, I think. A/N 3: Two notes about their ship! I mean, I could talk about it a lot, since I've put quite a bit of thought into it. But these two notes are to clarify things people might take issue with. The first is about the Guns. No, those aren't fully modern Naval Guns. Without computer/satellite support, they couldn't even USE modern naval guns to their fullest extent, even if Luffy could have made them. They aren't actually modeled off one specific weapon, but off my reading about several different guns. Their closest real counterpart is a WWI/WWII deck gun used by submarines. They aren't some all-powerful battleship main gun. But they ARE several large leaps forward from the tech seen through most of One Piece. They have a lot of range and stopping power, as seen in Chpater 21, but they aren't an unbeatable advantage. The ship's speed. This is really something from Chapter 21, but I'll cover it here. Yes, I know that their max speed is beyond even what a Catamaran can manage. Even racing catamarans tend to top out around 30-40 knots. And they aren't nearly the size and weight of the Discovery. Realistically, even with the engines, the Discovery should probably max out somewhere in the high 20s. 30 knots would, as Luffy indicated, likely be an absolute max. But, well...there's a reason the ship has its own Spirit Energy score. I'll leave it at that. Suffice it to say that One Piece fuckery is about regarding its top speed.

Chapter 19 A/N: Relationships! As determined by poll previously, this story will be a multi-ship. But as mentioned before Nojiko won't be among them. Instead, Keht Jelicho unintentionally gave me the idea to use her as a meddling big sister type trying to set Luffy up with others. Hence the little details about Belle-mere's unknown hobby ;-). I think, in the long run, she'll be a useful tool for me to help in making the multi-ship pairing feel a lot more plausible/natural.

This comment is for the various chapter author's notes! They aren't really major spoilers this time, so feel free to read them whenever. Though they'll make more sense after you read the chapters. Each chapter will have its own Author's Note comment below this one.
