My Hero Automata (Chapters 35 & 36)

Whew, made it through another month! Which means it's time for a new set of updates! As always, we're starting the month off with the first of two monthly releases for My Hero Automata. I won't say much here, since anything I could say would be spoilery. That said, I'll be putting a comment on the post with some details behind the reasoning of the chapter events that people may be curious about. I strongly advise you avoid that comment (which will be labeled as a spoiler) until after reading the new chapters ;-).

Anyway, enjoy the newest addition to My Hero Automata! As always, the new chapters are posted as attachments here, and I will be updating the Master Files in the pinned post shortly.

My Hero Automata (Chapters 35 & 36)

Power scaling isn't something I'm concerned about. Izumi has an even worse version of All Might's current issue, after all. Keeping her from being too OP was exactly why I did that. She can fight at All Might's level...for 15 minutes. Remember, even with 2B in control, they BARELY scrapped a win against the USJ Nomu. Izumi was, in fact, wounded by Kurogiri's warp gate during that incident, too. The one blow that Nomu got in hurt her as well, and multiple hits would have seriously wounded her. That Nomu isn't even close to what the High Ends will be, or several other threats. She just hasn't run up against anything else that strong yet (the Nomu she fought during internships wasn't as strong, AFO pick it to push her in a different way instead of a physical fight. He was only information gathering). The Striker and Bruiser modes she now has are also weaker than her full power, so she actually wouldn't be much better off against that Nomu now that she was at the USJ. Momo...I'm going to be honest, Momo's original Quirk is actually more dangerous than One for All is. By a lot. Her canon counterpart simply makes HORRIBLE use of that Quirk. She ought to be the single most dangerous entity in Japan. Instead, she's a barely competent side character. Oh, not the most dangerous in a straight fight, mind you. Though even there the ability to pull out a heat-seeking, deplete-uranium tipped RPG from her cleavage window would kill half of the Top 10 heroes. And the ability to create a cloud of poison gas from her skin would probably kill most of the other half. The only thing One for All actually does for her is give her the speed and durability to keep up with some of the other monsters. Well, and make her own Quirk more energy efficient. They might seem powerful, because they are. But they actually aren't all that broken by the canon MHA power curve. All Might will be depowered by the time they hit their stride, too, so there will never be a point they can by Three All Mights of power against a target for more than a few minutes. And remember that Todokori is gone, so the single most powerful member of canon 1A isn't there. (Let's be honest here, Todokori at full power is far more dangerous than canon Deku until pretty far into the story). Nor are the only threats that are going to come at them limited to canon ones. I won't be bringing any specific villains from Nier...but there are things in their future that are going to require the power they have.

Hahaha true about them being smart. The power scaling problem honestly came about when you, as you put it in your first chapter, “all might” comparable on the vs wiki, introduced 2B and Izumi. It basically put another all might on the heroes side, and with Momo fighting smart we could say three all mights. The villains honestly seem outmatched. An idea is putting a Nier villain or something on the playing field, but do whatever you have planned as I’m sure it’s going to be awesome!! Also you are fine at action, it was glossed over in this chapter because of the scale, but the internship fight was awesome

Hmmm, that's...a fair point. In truth a lot of that comes from the fact that I'm not very good at writing action (in comparison to most other aspects) so I tend to not go super involved into fighting. That was particularly true here, since there were so many combatants on the field that I didn't feel at all comfortable trying to show the larger battle. Which means that the only bits we really saw of Izumi were in the opening moments. I'll keep in mind that I need to keep showing that she and Momo have limits...though part of their reason for exceling is less sheer power and more the fact that they both know how to fight smart. The canon characters are... Well, honestly, most of them are idiots in how they use their abilities. Katsuki is basically the only one of them that shows off any adaptability in canon (which is really sad, I don't even like him!) and even he has too much hyperfocus on close combat when his Quirk is capable of so much more. Those Grenade Gauntlets of his, for example? There is literally no reason not to turn one of them into a variable power gun, which uses his sweat as propellent for the projectiles. Without the need for shell casings, powder, or primer...bullets are SMALL. He could carry hundreds of rounds of varying types, from rubber to armor piercing, in a gauntlet the same size as his canon ones. Giving him a mid to long ranged weapon that closes a gap in his fighting style. But no, that would be too smart...

I really really loved this chapter, it was really fun to read. Something that I will mention is that I wish Izumi was in more danger. What do I mean by that…at no point in this battle did I feel fear for her, which might have been intentional honestly as UA was a distraction. But I feel Izumi is just so very strong that when something happens I have full faith that she will handle it, and so the stakes are never fully realized. That could honestly work out well in Izumi being to overconfident and getting herself into trouble too. Getting decked in the face by muscular or AFO would be hilariously scary. I love when those to concepts intercept. Anyway, I loved the canon divergence, not many fics get this far so congrats!!! I can’t wait to see what happens next.

*SPOILER WARNING: The following comment will spoil the chapters!* ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Okay, if you're still here, I'm assuming you've already read the chapters ;-). In that case, you might be thinking two things: 1) AHHHHHH! How did canon diverge so much?! 2) Well, that got dark fast... So, addressing point one...the divergence of this event is the logical result of previous changes. In canon, Shigaraki's flailing attempts to cause mass panic and get attention failed. Given how much damage the Nomu did manage to do, though, my own assumption is that it was MADE to fail. Specifically, by the media outlets being leaned on to focus on Stain's capture over the Nomu attack. In this AU, Stain didn't get captured. Worse, the damage was greater. In part that was due to the greater number of Nomu used...but just as importantly, All for One tweaked the parameters of the mission. With him choosing the target and accounting for more variables, the attack was far more effective. There were no massed heroes like in Hosu, and he deliberately made sure that the most powerful heroine in the area was kept busy. This meddling by him in the plan made it far more effective than Tomura's inept flailing. Which, in turn, caused the LoVs to attract far more interest from serious villains. Not relatively-tame Stain followers, since they haven't been linked. But villains that are into serious mayhem and anarchy. Add in Twice, who may or may not exactly have been Willing, and you get a much nastier follow up. One geared toward Shiggy's insanity, instead of All for One's manipulations. On the second point...don't worry about this story suddenly taking a dive into the grim-dark and edgy territory. The villains aren't going to have it all their own way in the long run, and I'm not the type of author that enjoys making dark, edgy settings. This is actually one of the two darkest points I have currently planned. It won't just dive into grim bleakness and stay there. But bad things do happen, and will continue to at times.
