My Hero Automata (Chapter 32-34)

A couple of notes about this one. First, there's a reason that part of it is basically a time skip of sorts, and that comes back to the adjustments that needed to be made for UA being a University instead of a High School. Ever wonder why the Final Exams were so...fast to arrive? That's because Japanese high-schools use a three-semester system, instead of the two that a lot of the rest of the world is familiar with (Not everyone, but it's what I default to, since it's what I experienced). Universities don't do that. Japanese Universities use a two-semester system, just like virtually everyone else. Which means I had to do a bit of forceful rearranging in order to make things make sense. Even in canon, there's a pretty big gap of time that's just...not accounted for. But here that gap is slightly wider (I used up some of the time earlier on, to push the Heroics Tournament farther from the start of the year).
Ergo, we get another peak of bits and pieces of training in this set of chapters, and some entirely original divergence in the next. After that, we'll be into the Final Exam Arc from Canon, over to I-island...and then another major divergence since the Summer Camp thing is nonsense for a University. At least, it probably is. Going to have to research that one. It's actually surprisingly difficult to track down information on how Japanese Universities work. Easy for high schools. Hard for Universities. Go figure...
Anyway! Aside from that, there's a veryyyyyy mild lime in this set of chapters too, marked of course so you can skip it. Honestly, though, it barely even counts since it's mostly a fade-to-black moment. I originally intended to do something a bit more energetic with it, but it didn't quite feel right. Since I'm treating Momo and Izumi like they have a real, serious relationship, it felt like I needed more time to fully flesh out their 'on-screen' romantic feels before I did any sort of serious lemon content. Which, frankly, is fine as far as I'm concerned. I made it clear that this particular story wasn't going to be all that heavy on the lemon side of things. Only where they make since and develop characters properly, so it not feeling quite right yet was all the reason I needed to pull back from more with this one.

Sadly, a lot of people preferred to comment on AO3 before they removed my works from there, so a lot of back and forth on My Hero Automata and Displaced Hero in particular was lost :-(. As for the music video, I hadn't seen it, but looked it up. Pretty interesting. And I could totally see 2B having a fascination with them. Or maybe with hero-merch dolls if you combine it with canon Izuku's interests? It could be a sort of touchstone point for her and Izumi. Hmmm, that actually gives me an idea I might just use...thanks ;-).

Oh and speaking of tangentionally related comments, have you seen the official Nier Automata music video? Look up amazarashi - “Deserving of Life” featuring NieR: Automata in youtube. Basically the machines going paranoid on anything that looks like an android. Just makes me think it'd be neat if you had 2B collect dolls just to give the middle finger to the machines from across time and space.

Events will remain at least Somewhat familiar up until the Eri/Overhaul arc. By that time, things will have gone completely off the rails and the story will bare pretty much zero resemblance to canon.

2023-11-25 06:15:47 +0000 UTCThankyou very much for taking the time to reply with a suggestion, but I sort of cheated by having a friend drop over and do me the favor of copy/pasting the pdf into a text document, before increasing the font size to 18, which is something I can actually read. Also, I'm really enjoying the story. I wonder if it'll just follow most of the events in the original work or if the dominoes will start to fall and create something new since, for example, there was no camping trip, which means no kidnapping and no AfO vs OfA fight.

2023-11-23 15:02:38 +0000 UTCHmmm, I'm not sure how to help you with the line end issue since I don't know how you're reading. If you're on a computer, you can easily add an extension that will read the EPUB files, which shouldn't have that issue. Likewise, there are a number of free apps that will load them. That's part of why I provide the EPub files, as they are more feature-rich than PDF. PDFs are the other choice simply because almost anything will load them. Probably even a few smart toasters. The affection being limited to lemony scenes is mostly because they are Japanese. Public affection is culturally frowned on there, and most of the time they are in public. Izumi's also fairly shy, which means she wouldn't be the type to push that boundary. Likewise, while Momo would be slightly more inclined to...she's also fighting an entire lifetime of being trained in high-class behavior. I honestly forgot about the heels. Izumi doesn't have them, but since I forgot they existed, I didn't mention them :-p. Hmmm, to be honest, I hadn't actually considered the Combat Bracers. Virtuous Contract is, obvious, iconic as 2B's weapon. I added the Spears as a way to differentiate Izumi from 2B. Making her naturally inclined toward a different weapon was one relatively subtle way to make sure she didn't just become a 2B clone. I never really messed with the Combat Braces in Automata, though, so I hadn't really considered them. I might have to do something with them at some point. Particularly as you're right, they would probably be...MOSTLY easier on the QE. Sort of. Maybe. Lower upkeep costs for sure. But the ones I remember mostly had special abilities, shockwaves or burst damage finishers, that would actually cost more QE than just using a sword as a sword. *Edit* Oh, and she can absolutely use her bare fists. She just hasn't been faced with a reason to, for the most part.

It is a little bit annoying that it doesn't refit the line ends, so I have to scroll around left and right when reading, but at least its workable. (notice this end of line, courtesy of shift+enter) Line end Line end Why do you have all affection reserved for the lemon-y scenes? I think it'd be perfectly normal for a couple of hormonal and emotional teenagers to hold hands, smooch or lean into each other in the campus. Nothing much past that, but having all affection restricted to very specific lemon bits when they're alone feels odd, given that... teenagers. And They already told their classmates that they're together, so its not like they're trying to hide their relationship. Oh right, and before I forget, you got rid of 2B's suit boob window, which makes sense for a combat suit, but what about her heels? Or am I misremembering that she had heels? I like that you bring up the spears, a lot of people forget about the existence of 2B's other weapons. You're still forgetting about the combat bracers, and she certainly can fight with her bare fists too. I think it'd be funny to see a "dare you fight me without weapons, girl?" moment before she opens a can of whoopass on somebody. 2023-11-20 17:08:29 +0000 UTCThe answer is actually pretty straightforward. Patreon doesn't preserve Bold, italics, or underlining when you copy past into it. If also doesn't preserve the spacing between paragraphs either. Its possible other authors have found work arounds...but I follow several myself and their Patreon chapters usually aren't formatted as well as other options they provide. As it happens, however...there's shouldn't be any difference for you. Every browser I know of will open PDF files. Just tell them to open using your browser software and you'll have the same functionality available as you'd get from a Patreon post. More, probably, since there's usually some in-built accessibility options for PDFs in most browsers. Chrome, Firefox, and Edge all will, at least.

Other authors I follow just post the story on-site... it may sound like I'm nitpicking, but I have terminal glaucoma and am 85% blind, so I really need the function to enlarge font size, and I can't do that on either Epub or PDF, but I can do it on browsers.
