Displaced Hero - Mei Hatsume Poll

As I mentioned in the most recent release of Displace Hero, I'm considering bringing Mei Hatsume into the story. She would solve several problems by preventing me from needing to create a major OC. I'm going to have to do that eventually, of course. But the fewer major OCs I use, the better, for the most part. She's also simply a good fit for a lot of upcoming needs in the story, since they are going to need an engineering specialist at some point in the not-to-distant future.

However, I didn't/don't want to bring her in if doing so will be detrimental to people's enjoyment. I know that too much of a crossover element can be grating, and I originally intended Izuku to be the ONLY element of MHA that got added to the story. As such, this is your chance to say yes or no to Mei's inclusion. Note that she is the only additional MHA character I'm considering adding. For those that haven't read it yet, go read the 'tentative' chapter 15 of the latest release to get a feel for how she would be added in. As well as a bit of what her character would be like. I'd recommend doing that before voting blindly :-).

So, without farther ado:

Oh, it would definitely be way too distracting to pull Yagi. A few other characters would also tend to break Star Wars a little bit. But yeah, Mei is sufficently background I can play with her safely. Particularly as I actually don't intend for her to travel with them. The 'check engine' light in space situation is something their astromechs can handle ;-). That's literally their actual job, R2 is just an overachiever. Mei, if I bring her in (which voting seems to be in support of) will fill more of the designer role. Which is, after all, what she is in MHA too. She's a creator, not a mechanic, not really.

Yeah, I mean it's not like your pulling in anyone from the core cast of characters. Like, it'd be weird to suddenly pull in yagi and he wouldn't really play any kind of important role. But pulling in someone from the extended cast who specializes in support would be good. Plus you can play up her crazy a bit so you can't still get some of the juicy angst. "well mei's always been a bit eccentric, so im not sure she fully understands my problem here." plus I mean can you imagine getting a check engine light in the middle of space? That would be scary.

She is a fun character, at least potentially ;-). Actually writing her could be a bit of a challenge, but one I think I will probably survive. And that last point about Izuku having someone that understands his moral perspective is a good one I hadn't really thought of. I was a little worried that it would be removing one of the few 'downsides' to his reality jump and making it a bit too perfect for him. But, looking back, I actually never established what happened to Inko. So, it's not like having a single friend returned to him is going to offset the more dramatic parts of losing his old life. Which is something he hasn't dealt with properly yet. (He will eventually, and Mei might actually make that happen sooner).

*makes a so-so motion with his hand* I can see where you're coming from with that, but MHA and Star Wars tech bases aren't as far apart as it might seem. MHA shows off hologram technology, advanced robotics, jetpacks, and so on. Whereas Star Wars tech is, itself, extremely erratic and really not as advanced as it should be, given the age of the Republic as a star faring power. There's some reasons for that, including a Dark Age the Republic went through at one point. But it makes the overall tech base a really bizarre mixed bag. More to the point, though. I wouldn't be bringing her in as a mechanic to travel with them. I want her as a Designer to make new things, not to repair or maintain existing things. With what I want to use her for, she'd also have months at minimum to update herself on the tech differences. Years for some of the projects. That's just for clarification though. I asked for feedback and I'm not saying the opinion is invalid :-).

I chose no solely because just because she is a good at making things, I don’t believe she will be able to fix a spaceship capable of faster than life travel. It would make more sense to recruit a mechanic from the Star Wars universe. Oc or not. (I’m actually not caught up on this story but this is just my opinion)

Mei is such a fun character to play around with, plus she doesn't really have any connections with the world of MHA so transplanting her and having her be alright with it is pretty simple. Plus I think it'd do izuku good to have someone from earth tell him he's not being a bad guy.
