In Harlan Ellison's original draft of this teleplay, Kirk is *unable* to bring himself to allow Edith to die, and it is someone else who makes it happen. Ellison always viewed that version of Kirk as "more human" than the one who appears in the televised version, and he never forgave Roddenberry for changing it.

Thanks for this PUP

After the movies, I have some choice links for Ames :) I can't send them now cuz I don't want our intrepid heroes to look like fools haha

PS: For a good time, go to discogs and browse the Leonard Nimoy album covers. "Leonard Nimoy: The Way i Feel". "The Touch Of Leonard Nimoy!" lol. Nimoy croaking and warbling out versions of "Proud Mary" and "If I Had A Hammer"......makes you marvel that a company paid to have this guy record not just one album, but four or five!!

Holy smokes, it's Miss Spock! :D I'm loving how this episode starts as McCoy going bananas, then it's McCoy goes back in time, then it's they go back in time, then it's this woman and her fate. And you add the fact she's got all this hope for the future and space travel, and then the love story...... it all adds up to a pretty good hour! BONUS: Seen this episode a million times, and never once did it occur to me that Spock looked "cute" walking around in his jeans and his hat. Now, I will never NOT notice that!!! 🤣 (Thanks, Ames!)

Certainly one of Trek's best. Love when they meet again, like young kids not seeing each other for a while. Sadly followed by a terrible dilemma being played out. Kirk is often being characterized as a guns blazing, ask questions later kinda captain, but seeing old episodes and with the movies, most of his actions are well thought out and not as much based on emotion as you might think.

How about the music in this episode! I thought it was amazing!

I think this is the most cinematic of all TOS episodes. I'm glad they didn't make it into a 2-parter, one episode is more impactful. The 50-80 min medium length film used to be a popular format, this has a similar feel.

I’m going to have to list this somewhere so I can REMEMBER !!! So glad we got to watch together !

"City on the Edge of Forever" was so fun to watch again! What a great reaction, Ames! Kirk and Edith Keeler really had an instant connection! BTW, when Edith first saw Kirk and Spock, they had already changed into their "borrowed" clothes (which happened to fit them perfectly, lol). FYI, two of Clark Gable's most notable movies include, “It Happened One Night” (1934), winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and “Gone with the Wind” (1939), a cinematic masterpiece and classic. Although neither film is part of the AFI 100 list, they are considered essential viewing for film enthusiasts.
