The Origin of Padoru Padoru
The “Padoru” meme is a series of modified images that, accompanied by a music video which features a modified version of a Christmas song, references a scene from the game to PlayStation Portable, Fate / Extra. Within this game, the character of Nero Claudius sings a Japanese parody of the Christmas carol “Jingle Bells” during a short sequence, which ends with Nero Claudius loudly shouting the segment “Padoru, Padoru!“.
“Hashire Sori Yo, Kaze no You ni, Tsukimihara wo, Padoru, Padoru!“, Is the theme that Nero Claudius sings during this sequence. It is worth mentioning that “Padoru Padoru” is a Japanese onomatopoeia for the noise of the hooves of a reindeer, which refers to the reindeer of Santa Claus.
The custom is then that, since December 1 of each year, users in different social media, mainly Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and recently Discord, put a “Padoru” as a profile photo, sharing the images in threads in the first one. These types of chibi designs are updated every year by talented artists, who make illustrations of the anime characters of the moment adapting them to the design of Nero Claudius in the video game scene, which eventually gave rise to this trend. Some others prefer to go further and create animations mimicking the movements of the original sequence, giving a more creative boost to the trend.
