(Elinniel) Random Post #14 (Elinnie, Celeste and other stuff)

The last update was focused on the second quest for the merchant Elinnie, and overall I think it went just fine. Elinnie is a fun character to draw and write, so it’s usually pleasant to do stuff for her. Before I started preparing to make this quest I replayed her quest a few times and read all the stuff about her to avoid messing up her story, and then… Celeste appeared.

She was always supposed to be a weird girl, but it hurt my soul seeing how weird she actually was. And being just after I had redrawn Maribel I decided to work a bit on Celeste and make her less off putting. I think she is very cute now.
About Celeste, the initial idea for her, before she had a name or design, was to make a girl that Elinnie used to take care of in the past, but I thought it was too similar to Lamir. In the end I settled with making her an apprentice that looks up to her master, adding a delusional and weird personality to make her more endearing.
Now, for the plans to the next update: Rework the caves as a whole.
I’ll come out and say it, as a gameplay mechanic the caves sucks. After the initial quest at the first floor you need to buy a pickaxe and when you come back to the cave you can just rush down to the last floor without any challenge, reward or progression. That’s not fun.
Because of that we want to make the caves something more interesting from a gameplay standpoint.
The changes we are currently planning are:
- Make the cave system bigger and harder to push through in a single run. (keeping the checkpoints)
- More Rewards for exploring the caves.
- Boss fights after a few floors.
- Make exploring the caves feel like you are accomplishing something.
Oh yeah, Jill won the last poll… hope you guys are excited for her scene.
