I never played the games, I thought we would have during this episode Ellie going further in her revenge path and I also thought during all this time that her last words to Joel were the ones we witnessed at the ball. I was clearly not prepared for a memory episode, to see all of the sweet scenes with these two bonding and Joel trying to be the best dad he could. I was prepared (but it still hurts) to see the moment where their relationship would break, with Joel lying once again to Ellie, confirming her the first time he did it.
But I was clearly beyond shocked by the reveal that they talked after the ball. Not only they had one discussion (so her last words were not the ones I thought), but it was THAT discussion. Meaning that Joel confessed the truth, that Ellie learnt about it, that they had that occasion to talk about it, and not only he showed how painful it was for him to take these decisions but also that he doesn't regret them because it means he saved her, and he had time to say that it's because he loves her. And even if she was mad against him, she said she thought she couldn't forgive him for it, she said she was ok to try. To know they had one more discussion, that it was THAT discussion, which ended with a door staying open and both knowing they loved each other, they wanted to work on their relationshipā¦ I felt so glad, so relieved.
