Since I learnt that Shohreh would be a part of this season, I got excited because her charisma could only fit well with the Aes Sedai. I didn't know what role she would play since I didn't read the books, but I'm so glad she's gonna play in fact a "villain" character. Guys, fans of The Wheel Of Time, you're gonna love to hate her I think : being so powerful as my Queen Avasarala in The Expanse just by her presence, I can't imagine how magnificent she's gonna be as a Bad Bitch Elaida.
That opening scene showed a lot about the actual Queen and what she can do for what she thinks is right, to protect her realm. So that's why when she threatens Siuan at the end of this episode, I take that seriously. Mat trying to find his place in the Palace… Mat, really, my fight with this show, I want him to gain confidence, to be proud of himself, to know he's enough.

For what I remember, he's coming from a poor family, both of his parents were neglecting him and his siblings, and both were drunk people. Didn't read the books, so it's just what I remember from season 1, maybe other fans could give your more details.
