We know Satoru can't be dead. And I'm glad because really, without that certainty, I would have been destroyed by that scene. But Geto can't know his friend survived and he just had in front of his eyes the girl getting killed. Someone he allowed to choose to save herself, to choose herself, to choose to live. Clearly, Fushiguro doesn't know the rage is gonna face right now. And clearly this moment has to be really important to explain how Geto evolved after that.

I loved that Geto offered that to the girl, even if I know what it means about this place and people not being safe anymore. I said it, I'm not feeling comfortable with the ethical dilemma about killing one person to save others. And here, she wanted to live, she discovered what life could be.
