Hello !

I appreciated this movie a lot, it was really well written ! At first I was surprised by the subject of reincarnation and having multiple lives, and reminiscences of the previous lives. Because it's not something that I believe in and because at first I was not sure it was truly the subject but I totally bought it into the movie. But at the end, everything makes sense and I loved a lot the closures of everything, we have good answers to all questions asked in past and present lives. I even guessed who was the real enemy here.

But why, WHY, that death scene at the end ? It totally took me out of the intensity of the moment. I was afraid of losing one of the characters, that they couldn't be together also in this present life. But to make the enemy fall in slow motion so the hero has the time to prepare all of his death and to come back to protect his lover, and the death happening like that… I laughed. It was frustrating because like I said, I truly appreciated it and I saw how well it was written, that each discussion and thing had a "payment" in the end.

I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

I can totally imagine the impact that the movie had when it was out, and even more on you who were 14yo !

Wow, really nice reaction! Thank you. I saw this for first time when I was 14 and at that time, the plot seemed really original and well conceived and its use of symbols was innovative. Watching it 30 years later, it's certainly a different movie than I remember. It's still very engaging, but with so many movies that did something similar afterwards, like you said, little anachronisms really stand out. For the scissors scene, at the time, it was a big catharsis for the all of the tension building in the movie - and a symbolic resolution to its own idea of karma, but today we are wiser to such things, and it seems too far fetched for the tone of the rest of the movie.

Haaa, that's so cool ! That you know that bridge but also the house itself so well 😊 Yes, it's a good thriller, I really appreciated it. And yup, you know me, I pay attention to each detail being like "maybe it's a hint, maybe it's gonna serve later".

Some trivia things: Emma Thompson & Kenneth Branagh were married at the time they made this. They divorced in 1995. That bridge where he chases that guy that escapes off the side is in my area, I can walk over there in about 20 minutes - it was built in 1929. The house with a tower elevator is real ( it's a few miles away in the Hollywood hills ). I rented it years ago, I had forgotten how silly the final scene was with the giant scissors, but aside from that it's a good thriller. It's a tiny hint earlier on that we don't see the mother at the antique shop, but you notice at least a couple times he speaks to her.
