I've had the displeasure of trying Shark Fin Soup. It was part of a planned sequence at a friend's wedding in Singapore maybe 10 yrs ago. I didn't order it and would never order it. I figured may as well try it and see what all the fuss and prestige of the soup was about. It tasted like nothing interesting, just a kinda bland gelatinous blob like chewing on over cooked unseasoned tendon. I can't figure it out, it just tasted bad, no spice, no magic texture, no amount of added chili or seasoning made much difference. Its only fame is that its "shark fin" and the luxury of being able to afford it. In short, if you ever get a chance to try the forbidden soup, dont. It's just gonna taste like regret and sadness for the pour shark killed to make a miserable soup that tasted like bland over cooked tendon.
