Hello !
I really appreciated this episode and all of the subjects explored during it ! First, we have a character, Don, who is really superstitious and you can wonder about your own superstitions, how you deal with it on regular days. Second, this one has a lot of them and we can see he's someone anxious, full of doubts, so for sure he's gonna believe really quick into something which would give him all of the answers about his future. Showing that when you're desperate, you're searching for signs or you can even create them : like when Don crosses the road in a dangerous way and then sees it as a sign that he avoided death.
But at the end, his wife Pat gives him a real lesson : if you believe that much, if you let these signs and here that fortune teller machine guides your decision, in fact you're not in control of your own life anymore, you're not taking any choice anymore and you let the thing decide for you. That's what happened to the couple entering at the end, and we can see they're sad, lost, and also blocked with that fortune teller, in that town, forever. Ah, and the fortune teller looks like the Devil…

I didn't describe them during the video ? You can't open an umbrella inside, you can't have your bread on the wrong side, you can't be 13 at the table (you have to add another plate to "the stranger who is gonna see the door opened") etc.
