Hello !

All of what we discovered during these memories with the Todoroki's family was everything that I imagined and worst, all of the reasons why I hated so much Endeavor and I didn't want to consider a possible forgiveness during entire seasons. You saw it, it took me a long time to just open the door to a redemption arc and because the character showed he truly wanted to change and showed regrets. But here, to have everything on screen, confirmed, I hated him again so much that it triggered me.

Sorry, but I can't jump from one emotion to another one. We have the confirmation Rei was sold to him by her family (so let's imagine her childhood with them), because she wanted to bring back honor to them (not a position of weakness at all since the beginning) and she was used to make babies (clearly not during an act of love), blamed for them not succeeding or doing bad stuff (physically and psychology violence) and forced again to produce babies (with Endeavor looking at her with so much hate, we can imagine the "act" itself…). And then I'm supposed to just go back in present time, with Endeavor crying and being sad for him ? I can't. And let's not talk about Rei and the kids feeling guilty, when they shouldn't : we're gonna say to victims that yes, they are also responsible because they didn't run away (and abandoned the others), because they didn't defend themselves enough (against the number 2 hero, who was violent with them, when they were weak/kids), so, hey, it means they accepted it, right ? NO, NO, NO.

PS : I know a lot of fans are gonna be mad at me being like "hey ho, come on, he changed, you said it yourself, so move on". I consider his present path, his redemption arc, and I want it, I believe into it. But you can't show me ALL OF THAT and ask me to just 10 seconds later be back on the redemption arc train. I can't.

I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

Totally ! To think Rei had the choice, it's denying forced marriage and women suffering from it : sold by her family, so clearly not considered by them as a human being but as an object (so let's imagine the childhood she had), she went thinking at least she would give them honor back, and then she could have escaped and let her kids alone with that monster ? And escape where, with this awful family who would have taken her back here ? And Endeavor wouldn't have searched for her to continue his "projects" ? You saying that "Fuyumi was never trained" is making me understand in fact why maybe she's the one who wants the most to create that relationship with her father : she knew that his lack of consideration was never determined by something she is/could be, just she was not considered interesting. It was not hate, disappointment or else, so clearly, she's just trying to be seen by him, to be considered. I think he made misogynist remarks just because he was trying to be like his father and he had only that example at home. I think it explains also his way of considering relationships in general.

Every time I rewatch and see Endeavor say "Rei could've refused!" I react the same way that you did - no she couldn't! Her options were to either be sold into marriage, or "refuse" and suffer whatever repercussions her family would've put on her (and given they were willing to sell her, I can only imagine what those repercussions would have been). It's both so sad yet so interesting to see how Toya was shaped by his experiences. He was the first child, so he knew a time when Endeavor wasn't as abusive as we see him to be now. We've seen a few small flashbacks that show, while he wasn't a good father by any means, he clearly cared about Toya beyond just projecting his own ambitions. Then, when Toya started getting burned, all of that changed. Endeavor stopped training him, began getting more aggressive and violent, and started forcing Rei to have more kids. Fuyumi was never trained, and we see that the only time he spends with his kids is for training, so it makes sense that Toya was the only one to feel so betrayed. In his eyes, he failed his father and turned him into what he is now. He thinks that, maybe if he's better, Endeavor will get better, too. At least that's my interpretation. I've also seen some people call Toya/Dabi a misogynist for some of the comments he made, and, while I get why they think that, it just isn't true. You understood it perfectly - Toya's entire life has been spent trying to make Endeavor proud of him, so he will of course pick up and emulate his behavior toward Rei (and by extension, Fuyumi). As he gets older, he continues to see Rei being mistreated and - not understanding that she is also a victim - just interprets that as weakness, since that is what Endeavor would do. Since Fuyumi always tried to mediate and Toya was always a hothead, he saw Fuyumi as weak too. Since those were the only two major female presences in his life, and since Endeavor and Natsuo weren't like that, he generalized to "all women" because that was the reference point that he had. This episode is always so heavy, but my favorite moment has to be when Endeavor grabs Rei and she thinks "Stop looking at me with those eyes," and it cuts to Toya's eyes, then Shoto's eye peeking out from the corner, then the teapot on the ground. It was such an amazing retelling of what lead to Rei snapping and burning Shoto. Sorry this comment is so long haha! I just love this episode and your reaction so much :)

I totally agree with your words here : I don't forget/forgive what he did, but I appreciate how his character is written and this redemption arc. But I clearly can't jump from one emotion to another, and have all of that shown on screen, all of what I imagined before and have the confirmation of it, and just come back on redemption boat. I'm not against him getting an happy ending, as long as it means all of his family found peace (and maybe before him).

Yeah, this episode was rough. I like the fact that they don't shy away from showing just how terrible Endeavor was. While I will never support nor justify any of his choices or his awful behavior, I understand what led him to be such a piece of shit. Which is why I can really appreciate how his story and his arc is written because I think it's pretty realistic. He did horrible things. He now understands he did horrible things and is sorry for it. Some people forgive him, some people don't. But no one is as harsh to him as he is to himself. And I think that's what I enjoy about it the most; in that he seeks forgiveness, but knows he is unforgiveable and unworthy of it. I love tragedies. I don't want him to get a happy ending. What I want for him to use what's left of his life and do only good moving forward.
