Hello !

Individually, all episodes of this season are really great and entertaining, and this final episode is just the grande finale. But the whole season is weirdly built, there is an issue with the rhythm : we have seven episodes with the story not progressing, just rumors of a plan being prepared, and at the end, the story is exploding with one fake plan which is a trap for our guys, one fake plan which was to lie to the bad heroes, and Sage real plan which was about installing a dictator and Homelander ruling it.

And it's a little the same for the characters. We went really deep with Butcher's character with his hallucinations, with him being tempted by Joe-Negan but refusing his help, saying to Hughie he's giving up, trying to help Ryan… But he's confronted by Ryan's evolution : the kid was promised by Homelander he could do/be whatever he wants then he discovered his genitor was the real danger so he came to Butcher and Mallory who now wants him to be trained to kill Homelander. And they block him, they're not letting him the time/occasion to take the decision by himself. Ryan commits the worst, and Butcher sees it and evolves into the worst also.

So okay we went deep with Butcher this season, but what about the other ones ? We could have gone so much deeper with Kimiko and Frenchie, them feeling guilty about their pasts, and here the conclusion (even if I love it, FINALLYYYY) is given so quickly. Same for Annie confronting/killinger that version of her saying she's perfect, the mirror situation, we could have done much more. So yes : episodes individually are cool, this final episode is impressive but the season feels weird ; we did a lot for Butcher but we stayed on the surface for the other characters. Next season promits no matter what to be way better.

I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

Ah, cool, I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling like that. For me, they really began this season with "let's find something for each character", but writing each episode they focused so much on Butcher and Homelander that they saw really quick they couldn't have time for the rest, so they stayed on the surface. You're right about Colin story, like now that we see the entire season, just Frenchie facing a person who suffered from what he did couldn't have been enough, like a kid or else, than to create all of a relationship situation. In the sense that it took time for in fact just the conclusion which is important. Same feeling for Vicky who was robbed and Sage who is bringing something really fresh, a real ally for Homelander who is an equal to him at the end.

I agree with your analysis, that each individual episode was good and fun, but that the story arcs of the non-butcher and non-homelander characters were not really handled well. All of the storylines they have for each of the characters are interesting, but they didn't spend enough time to make me feel it. Like, I get it, it makes sense, and I understand how it's important in the greater scheme of things, but I didn't *feel* the gravity of it. Additionally, I felt like the Hughie drama with his parents, as well as MM's anxiety attack, were really under utilized and don't really serve any major purpose in the greater story, to the point that I question why they even put those in there? They were really nice moments, but I don't think they uniquely contributed a to the whole narrative. I don't think there would have been major changes if they removed those storylines. While I'm glad that Frenchie and Kimiko are finally together, it took way longer than it should have. I would have preferred to not have the Rising Sun storyline and even the Colin storyline just so that we can instead have a storyline with them figuring out how to forgive themselves. But I'm still happy they're finally together. I feel bad for Vicky. She was robbed a redemption arc. I get that killing her was important to further advance Butcher's storyline, but still. I'm a sucker for a good redemption arc and I was hoping that she would get one. I really love Sage's character. I feel like she's a bigger psychopath than Homelander is. Homelander wants to rule and be a king. Sage wants to destroy the world just to see if she can. I wonder if and how she will turn on Homelander. Despite its flaws, I still enjoyed the season and am looking forward to the next one. Though I wish they improve their storytelling for the other characters.
