Another slow episode but in which we're spending time with Einar and Thorfinn, and Thorfinn is FINALLY showing signs that he's emotionally changing, evolving. I LOVED IT !!! I repeat it for way too long : since his father died, Thorfinn grew up physically and became way stronger, mentally and became really clever, but emotionally he never evolved. The best proof of it being the fact that in his dreams, he was picturing himself as a kid. And Askeladd saw it, saw that, despite his desire of revenge, Thorfinn never imagined a future of himself, imagined himself as an adult, someone who has an entire life to live.
During this episode, inside of his dreams, Thorfinn is finally picturing himself as an adult, who he is right now, and he's looking at his younger version attacking someone looking like Einar. And he's trying to stop it ! It's so symbolic, so deep, I love it so much. It means that Thorfinn finally evolved and he can see that he changed : he's not that kid anymore, he wants to stop that kid, he can see that he killed innocent people like Einar's family, he's not okay with that. Thorfinn finally changed, accepted it, but he still has his guilt to deal with : that's why his nightmare continues, with these hands, surely people that he killed, making him fall again and again in that big cliff. He needs to accept his past, to make peace with it.

They needed to have some episodes for Thorfinn changing. After all of what happened to him, he couldn't switch just in one episode, they needed to show how deep it was, all of these ghosts haunting him, this guilt coming at any moment.

2024-06-07 07:55:24 +0000 UTCThis is a very underrated episode. I love the quiet introspection and character growth. Thorfinn saying "Without my hate, I'm empty" is really sad but then Sverkel replying with "If you are empty, you can fit anything inside you" suddenly makes it beautiful. It's exactly what Thorfinn needed to hear at that point. Also him making a comparison about himself and the bully farmers was very interesting. He has so much guilt that he doesn't think he even has the right to judge other people. His punch actually surprised him too. It was an emotional response and wasn't something he planned to do. It's interesting how he saw the old woman and his father after that punch. Clearly, that act of violence triggered some memories in him.
