Hello !

The fact that I cut/accelerated 8min of the review of this final episode, and that it's 21 minutes long before editing, is proving to you that the denial was huge after what happened, that I needed to talk about it… And at the end of it, you can see I'm finally processing the information of Askeladd being killed, by thinking "okay, so he's never gonna be the King, not even of Wales, his land, not even for some time". Like really, just that sad thought erased the 15 minutes of denial during which I counted at least 8 reasons for him to be fakely dead. "Askeladd is not dead, and even if he's dead, he's not dead because I'm not accepting that he's dead."

Because it was just after a badass moment of him killing the actual King, because Canute himself said it was just an act, because we discovered all of this background and it was written for him to have an higher place at some point, because he never said to Thorfinn the truth about Floki giving him the order to kill Thors, because it's Canute the guy who never hold a sword killing him when he's not even 1% of the warrior Askeladd was, because he killed the King for Canute, because… I loved him so much.

I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

Comments

Hello ! I don't take your comment bad... I just take it as it's really not one for me. To tell me that I didn't understand the themes of the season is pretty rough, considering that I make each time big reviews after episodes to discuss all of the themes they discussed about during them. I can get mad at Canute, I can want for Thorfinn to discover the truth about Floki, I can say Thorfinn is blinded by his desire of revenge, and still considers all of the other narrative arcs/subjects developed in this season, even more because I discussed I think the majority of them. I never hoped that Thorfinn would suddenly changed his mind and decide to not kill Askeladd, not at all, but I would have wanted just for him to know the truth so he would know that Askeladd was the sword but not the hand/brain behind that (still, Thorfinn would have killed him no matter what). I'm not blaming you for having that opinion on me, I would just tell you to rewatch my reviews again and maybe also to consider that I loved so much Askeladd that here, for this episode, I was blinded by that and couldn't see the rest. But it doesn't erase everything I said/thought before 🙈 Hope you understood me better with this comment !

Someone once said that the mentor has to die for the protagonist to grow. 🤔

I feel like you really need to revisit this season with different eyes. The way you got mad at Canute and how you kept fixating on someone telling Thorfinn that Floki was behind the hit on Thors show a lack of focus on what the themes for this season are in setting up S2. I feel like you were too invested in the wrong things about Thorfinn's journey to the point you only saw the story as a traditional revenge story where Thorfinn finds out it was Floki that wanted Thors gone, and Askeladd would be spared. This is not meant as any disrespect or any negative slights against you. I usually really enjoy your post reaction thoughts and the views you have on the show. However, I feel like you missed the important themes of the first season of this show.
