Hello !

I already talked about the fact that Askeladd and Thorfinn had a similar background, both wanting to have revenge for one of their parents. With the difference that Askeladd took his time, hid his rage and had another purpose in mind for his future, a motive to act that way and wait for the right moment. When Thorfinn never imagined his future, never had something else in mind. So after that new loss against Askeladd, Thorfinn is desperate.

Leif is giving him so many gifts here : his "forgiveness" for the years he lost searching for a kid who didn't want to be found and to come back home ; his time, with that promise of letting Thorfinn having his revenge ; and a future, by talking about Vinland, that dream land Thors wanted to discover and Thorfinn should be focused on to honor his dad's memory.
