I knew we would have the dual Askeladd/Thorfinn during this episode and, with the rhythm of this anime so far, I was certain that the boy would kill the pirate… and I was already feeling really sad about it. So I'm glad that I was wrong ! Askeladd won because he understood Thorfinn is still guided by his emotions, that he grew up physically and mentally, but not emotionally. And during this fight, his rage made him blind and lose focus on Askeladd.
The discussion with Hordaland was interesting : for me, Thorfinn lies to himself by thinking he's not like a slave for the pirates (he's far away from home, they are using him etc) and he talks with too much pride at first. But, if I kept my tears during the little scene with Thors as a ghost and Thorfinn back at being a little kid, I cried for good when Thorfinn told the girl that tale of Vinland : he learnt from his father that the land can give peace and hope to people who are desperate.

Thorfinn is still for now a kid inside, we can see it when he "meets" his dad, he pictures himself as a kid. It's gonna take him a lot of time, and maybe some mistakes, to understand his dad was right since the beginning, right ?

2024-02-22 07:13:49 +0000 UTCI love this episode. The duel is awesome to watch but it's the aftermath that elevates the episode. Thorfinn remembering his father and his words to him, but he still doesn't understand what they mean. At least he tells Hordaland about Vinland, so maybe his father's teachings are slowly taking hold.
