I didn't think at all that Thorfinn wouldn't want his revenge against Askeladd for what happened to his dad, at any point. It's the thing which is giving him strength to continue, to stay alive, and for that, he continues to follow the pirates, he attacks and kills people for them. But I appreciate Askeladd's character so much that I don't want this duel to happen. What is done with all of his pirates can be truly awful, and for sure Thors' death deserves a revenge scene, and no, Askeladd can never become a friend or a mentor for Thorfinn… buuuuuut, to kill him… not for now, please, let's keep him alive a long time.

Even more because Thorfinn needs to understand Askeladd was only the sword to kill his dad, but Floki was guiding that hand. And he has the maturity now to learn the news : as a kid, he was only seeing the guy in front of him as the enemy and because he grew up, he understood that the world is bigger, people have different reasons to act, like himself, and he can be the enemy of people also. That subject of "no one is the enemy" is already the big subject of this anime, that little seed that Thors planted at the beginning.
