Before talking about Genya, let's just say that I love Upper Four "abilities" as a demon : if he's attacked, he can take his Emotions out and because they are stronger than him, they can all protect him. I just LOVE the symbolism of that. And for me, if Genya didn't succeed here to kill him, it's because you have to kill his Emotions and then, he would be weaker, so you could reach him. See the symbolism I'm searching for ?
Genya's memory… It was so unexpected to have it here, and it was awful to see. Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful for the pictures and the intensity of the scene, it was well written and all, but I felt so sad. For Genya and Sanemi. They both promised to themselves they would protect their family, and this happened… I don't blame Genya for what he said to his brother, he was shocked and traumatized, and the fact he does all of that just to make him proud and have the chance to tell him he's sorry… But Sanemi, also, what he was forced to do… Awful.

Oh, you're right, I didn't think of that. I thought that it explained a lot their attitudes (Genya and Sanemi), their abilities, their ways of functioning and all, but you're right, if we would rewatch the scene with Nezuko, it would really have another sense now...

2023-05-16 13:59:15 +0000 UTCThis episode just reminded me how much I want to see Sanemi in action. But it certainly sheds more light on why he was the least trustworthy of Nezuko, especially knowing more than anyone that no matter how close of family they were 99% of demons just don't care.

2023-05-16 08:25:51 +0000 UTCYeah, that ending sucked. And you know that if they ended there that means that Tanjiro probably wasn't able to cut the demon's head off. I assume the emotion demon with a fan probably got him, but I guess we'll have to wait for next week to find out. UGH. I also disliked that we literally only saw Tokito trapped. That's it. They might as well have not shown him at all because nothing has changed. -_- I think Genya wasn't able to cut the demon's head because he doesn't have the skill for it. He can't use breathing techniques, which is probably why he uses the gun, but also means that he's just not strong enough to kill that demon. Probably because you're right and the small demon was the real Upper Rank 4, making that demon significantly more durable. All of this just makes his being a demon(?) all the more interesting. I have so many questions about it. O_O Oh! I got another theory that I suddenly thought of when you mentioned that Tanjiro might be related to the Upper Rank 1 guy, I know you've mentioned this theory before, but it only clicked in my head now. Maybe they're not related. Maybe one of Tanjiro's ancestors was *trained* by that guy to be a sun breather. Also, now that we know Genya cannot use breathing techniques, I'm thinking that the techniques of Hinokami Kagura have probably been passed down Tanjiro's family just as a dance or ritual, and that none of them were adept enough to actually use it for its demon slaying potential, until Tanjiro. Oh god, so many theories @_@ My favorite scenes from this episode has to be whenever Genya was exposed to how genuine Tanjiro was and was just stunned by it. hahaha reminded me of how Inosuke first met and related to Tanjiro. Tanjiro's pure good guy demeanor breaks through any tough macho guy persona. hahaha
