DxD: The Truth of The World

CHAPTER 12

-

He didn't explain much, seeing as his little brother was dumped with information for the whole afternoon, so he just gave some small stuff for him to digest.

Yes, he knew about the supernatural.

Yes, he knew the students were Devils.

Yes, he could use magic beyond healing spells.

No, it was illegal to magically make someone want to sleep with you.

Ye—Well, yes, mind-manipulation spells exist, but absolutely not, mister. Stay away.

… Sigh. Yes, there are spells that grant X-Ray vision and boost stamina for “late night activities,” but like hell he’d teach those to Issei!

Kids these days really can’t stop thinking about doing the deed, huh?

In the end, Issei had to run back to the Occult Research Clubroom after dinner. It was most likely that he was getting started with his Flyer Delivery duties that every Reincarnated Devil has to go through.

Technically, it's not their duty, as the responsibility is given to the King of the Peerage, but it's something akin to a rite for newer Devils to learn the hierarchy of the Underworld.

Speaking about the ORC, he really needed to talk to one of his colleagues about the teacher overseeing all this.

In any case, his own schedule needed readjusting. Less overtime, more time training Issei... and getting his ass handed to him by Agatha. Oh, and a phone call. He definitely had to make that call.

Maybe it was time to go back to writing in a to-do notebook to keep track of everything.
Hnn, those were simpler times.

DING~

His work phone buzzed in his pocket. Curious, he pulled it out and swiped to unlock the screen. An email notification from the Student Council's main email account. He skimmed through it, brow rising with each sentence, until he stopped halfway and sighed. After a moment of hesitation, he tapped out a quick reply to the sender.

"That being said, with the recommendation coming from the Student Council president herself, I am now the teacher advisor in charge of this Occult Research Club. Please treat me well."

He gave a short bow before raising his head to see the reactions.

As expected, Rias and Akeno both had small, amused smiles, as if they had already known about the appointment well in advance. Kiba offered a polite nod with the boy's usual gentle smile, though he could see the glint of curiosity in his eyes. Koneko blinked once, the biscuit in her mouth pausing mid-crunch before she simply shrugged and continued with her cookie.

And then there was Issei.

"E-EHHH?!"

He leapt to his feet, staring at Ren with eyes wide in disbelief. Ren sighed and smacked a hand down the back of his head to stop him from screaming.

“Don’t shout like that, idiot. You’ll scare off your new clubmates.”

He shot the others a sheepish grin, thumbing toward Issei with practiced resignation.

“My little brother is a bit loud, slightly perverted, and occasionally forgets what manners are, but his heart’s in the right place. Please be patient with him.”

Satisfied that the introductions were over, Rias clapped her hands together to get everyone's attention after giving Akeno an order.

"Akeno, if you would?"

"Yes, Buchou. Ise-kun, please come to the center of the magic circle."

Akeno motioned for Issei to come with her hand as Rias turned to face her new Pawn.

"Ise, your work of giving out the leaflets is over. Well done. Now I'll have you do a Devil's actual job."

His face brightens as he exclaims excitedly.

"Oh! Now I can make contracts!?"

His King nodded as she prompted him to open up the device granted by her.

"Yes, that’s right. Though, since it’s your first time, it’s going to be a contract with someone who wants to make a small wish. Koneko has two reservation contracts, so since it’s hard to do both, I'll leave one to you."

"... Please help me out."

Koneko bows her head with that stoic expression of hers. He made a mental note to find out why the girl was so emotionally dull at her age. Looking at her closer, he couldn't deny that she was cute, the kind of "cute" that one would say when they tightly hug a plushie.

The emotionless expression on her face was contradicting the cute face, but most would even say that it makes it more attractive. A very long-distance gap moe, as the kids say these days.

... Shit, no way in hell did he just say that. Man, he was old.

Noticing his gaze on her, Koneko mechanically turned her head to meet his eyes before muttering softly.

"... Perverted family."

His eye twitched at the blasphemy he was being subjected to, but he held his tongue and instead turned his attention to the large, glowing magic circle in the corner of the clubroom. Issei now stood at its center, fidgeting with nervousness and excitement as Akeno raised an arm forward.

In response to her gesture, the circle flared to life, causing Issei to flinch in surprise with a yelp as the light intensified.

"Keep quiet, Ise. Akeno is currently inserting your carved seal into the magic circle."

Rias explains as she stood in front of Issei, one hand on her hip as she waited for the circle to glow brighter,

"Ise, put your palm towards here."

She signaled him to raise his arm forward. Issei followed, and Rias started to draw something akin to a seal on his palm with her fingers. A second later, said seal glowed before fading from his skin.

"Great, it worked as intended. This sigil here allows you to transport to and from a location using this teleportation-type magic circle. In this case, it transports you to the client's place instantly, and when the contract is done, it lets you return to this room."

Rias then turned her head towards him.

"Sensei, once Issei’s teleportation is complete, I’d like to register your magical signature into my clan’s circle as well. For emergency communication and access to the teleportation ability."

Since he had no problems with it, he quietly nodded, which she smiled at.

Some moments passed before the magic circle illuminated fully, shining a crimson red that mirrored its master's shade of aura. Even from the far distance, he could feel the significant amount of power rising from it.

"The magic circle is responding to the client, so you'll be teleported there now. You already have the manual for what to do after getting teleported, right?"

"Yes, Buchou!"

Issei nodded excitedly.

"Good response. Now, get going!"

The light from the magic circle intensified and enveloped the whole room in its colors, causing Ren to cover his eyes instinctively, only for the light to vanish instantly. Reopening his eyes, Issei was... still in the middle of the magic circle.

He gave out a sigh. He had already predicted this predicament. As a normal human being, his magical power was already close to zero. So, even as a Reincarnated Devil, his now demonic powers were meager.

No matter how he trained Issei in the past, magic was something that he couldn't help with since, you know, he was still not deep in the supernatural. His body was quite fit for someone his age due to his relentless training for the future, but magic-wise...

His demonic power was so pathetically weak that even a baby-born Devil had more.

"Hurry and get going! It’s a Devil's job to make contracts! You can’t make humans wait!"

"U-Uwaaaaaah! I'll do my best!"

Eventually, the decision, rather cruelly, in Ren’s opinion, was for Issei to go on foot to the client's location, something that Issei did so unwillingly as he ran out of the clubroom in tears to avoid being late.

The room was silent for a moment before Ren coughed into his fist, garnering everyone's attention as he spoke.

"Forgive me if I’m mistaken, but... couldn’t either one of you have stepped into the circle with him and shared a little demonic power to jumpstart the process? At least to get him to the client, then you could always teleport back..."

Rias blinked a few times before smiling sheepishly.

"Huh... that... might’ve worked."

Beside her, Akeno chuckled softly, touching her cheek in her usual composed manner.

"Ara, that idea completely slipped our minds, didn’t it, Buchou?"

Rias placed a hand under her chin, looking thoughtful.

"Perhaps we can start doing so tomorrow? Everyone, what are your schedules for the week?"

Kiba and Koneko immediately shook their heads with quick, polite objections.

"I'm sorry, Buchou, my schedule is tied up with clients."

"... Full."

"Ufufu, unfortunately, mine as well."

Rias bit her lip in frustration as she tried to figure out a way to make her precious Pawn work less than needed before she suddenly perked up, snapping her fingers at the idea that came to mind.

Her gaze locked on his before pointing at him.

He blinked.

He blinked again, then slowly raised a hand and pointed at himself.

"Me?"
