BNHA: The Name's Spark, Spark The Hedgehog

CHAPTER 3

-

"So, what're we doing here again?"

Spark asked the tall man next to him—Aizawa was his name, if he recalled correctly—as he followed behind with this wonderful drink that he ordered earlier in his hand. It's been less than a week since he found himself here in this world, and he was totally enjoying his time with the food in this dimension.

He had to admit, for all the chaos that came with being stranded in another dimension, the food here? Absolutely top-tier. If he wasn’t in a hurry to find a way back home, he might’ve actually considered sticking around just for the cuisine.

"You're a terrestrial anomaly. Nezu wants you to undergo an assessment to see where you stand in terms of ability. If you're going to be here for a while, we need to know how much of a threat you pose."

The tired man said in a monotone, barely sparing Spark a glance as the hedgehog stopped sipping on his drink and scoffed.

"A threat? Wow, way to make somebody feel welcome. But I can see what you mean: a mysterious, super-powered, and rather dashing hedgehog falls out of nowhere, and that'll pop a big question mark under my head, right?"

Aizawa gave him a blank look before tearing open a small packet of an energy gel and squeezing its contents into his mouth, pointedly ignoring him. Spark sighed.

"Alright, fine. So, what kind of tests are we talking about? Running laps? Lifting weights? Dodgeball?"

He smirked at the thought of dodgeball, recalling what happened when the group decided to enjoy a game of it. As always, it had been an absolute mess, complete with chaos; that was a great day.

"Oh, please tell me it’s dodgeball. I would love to see how that plays out against the heroes-in-training that your school trains."

"The U.A. Entrance Exam for the year you are joining is in a month's time, so you won't be training with and against them yet."

His ears twitched at the last word of the sentence, a slight frown dawning on his face.

"Yet, huh? That pretty sure means that I'm in without any exams?"

"The Entrance Exams test both written and physical proficiency. Unless you plan on magically absorbing years of knowledge of this world from textbooks in just under two months, then we will have to resort to nepotism. As much as I hate it, it's needed in this sense to keep you in our sights."

Spark hummed, tapping a finger against his muzzle in thought. The man had a point, but that didn’t mean he had to go with it.

"Yeah, that doesn’t sound fun. I’d rather get into this school on my own merits, not as a charity case."

His eyes widened slightly as an idea hit him.

"Hey, why don’t you just set my written exam scores to the average and let me prove myself in the physical? That way, I earn my spot fair and square."

Aizawa remained silent for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then, with a slow nod, he replied positively.

"I'll bring it up to Nezu."

Spark grinned, and with a snap of his fingers, he pointed at Aizawa and exclaimed.

"Aha! Good man! This is going to be so fun!"

Aizawa sighed, muttering something under his breath—something along the lines of a problem child—that he probably wasn’t meant to hear. But whatever, he’d take the win.

"That's a lot of tree."

Spark muttered as he perched on top of the bus, gazing at the dense forest that stretched further than his eyes could see.

"I've contacted a group of heroes to borrow their property for your training since you mentioned needing a large area. They call it The Beast's Forest."

Aizawa explained before tossing a bracelet up toward Spark from the ground. The hedgehog caught it with ease, inspecting the sleek metal band with a raised brow.

"It's to track your location and vitals for our records while serving as a compass. Once I give you the signal, you are to run down from the hillside we're at and head north until you reach a clearing with a large house."

Nodding, he slipped the bracelet onto his left arm before hopping down from the bus with a light thud. He double-checked to see if it worked as intended, glancing at the sleek interface as a small arrow pulsed on the screen pointing north with a tracker at the bottom that represented the distance between himself and the target.

"Alright, so run through the giant forest and make it to the house. Sounds simple enough. Is there going to be a surprise or two along the way?"

Aizawa crossed his arms, his expression unreadable.

"I didn’t say the forest was empty."

Spark let out a chuckle, shaking his head as he rolled his shoulders.

"Alright then. Just say the word."

He crouched and planted his hands onto the ground in a runner's stance, taking a deep breath as he let the soles of his shoes rub against the hard asphalt road.

Aizawa took out his phone, tapping a few times before giving a lazy wave.

"Go."

The moment the word left his lips, Spark shot forward. The asphalt cracked slightly under the sudden burst of force, sending a gust of wind whipping past Aizawa’s scarf as the hedgehog disappeared into the forest in a streak of gold in under a second.

Aizawa exhaled through his nose, rubbing his temples as he eyed the faint trail of golden sparks lingering in the air. From the instantaneous acceleration, he knew that today was going to be a shorter day than expected, yet he could already sense the migraine forming in his head as he walked back to the bus.

... Maybe he should have grabbed a faster vehicle, considering that he already knew and predicted that keeping up with the hedgehog was going to be a nightmare.

Trees blurred past him as Spark weaved through the obstacles around him with ease.

"Alright, nice warm-up, but I was honestly expecting something—"

His ears twitched.

A rustle, barely noticeable over the sound of his own movement, sent his instincts into overdrive. Without hesitation, he dropped low just as a blur shot out from the shadows to his right. A massive, clawed limb sliced through the air where his head had been, the sheer force of the swipe splitting bark from the nearby trees.

Landing in a roll, Spark sprang back onto his feet, golden sparks crackling around him as his onyx eyes locked onto his attacker.

"Oh yeah, now we’re talking!"

A low, guttural growl rumbled through the forest. From the thick underbrush, hulking forms began to emerge. Bulky creatures of earth and stone with jagged limbs shifting unnaturally as they lumbered toward him. Their hollow, glowing eyes locked onto him, and in an instant, they charged.

Spark’s grin widened as he cracked his knuckles, letting them pop.

"Alright, guys. You wanna play? Come to papa!"

The forest floor trembled beneath his feet at the amount of Chaos Energy he was emitting as the first construct lunged, its stone claws gleaming under the filtered sunlight.

In a flash, Spark's figure blurred before vanishing.

BOOOOM!

A sonic boom cracked through the air as he reappeared above the creature, twisting mid-air before delivering a devastating axe kick to its head. The impact sent fractures racing down its rocky form, splintering it apart as it crumbled to the ground.

BOOOOM!

Another sonic boom erupted, shaking the trees as he vanished once more. Before the remaining stone golem could react, he reappeared at its side, golden streaks of energy trailing behind him.

He drove his fist straight through the golem’s rocky torso. A deafening crack echoed as the creature's body splintered from the force of the impact. Dust and shattered stone exploded outward, the golem’s glowing eyes flickering before dimming entirely.

Yanking his arm out of the dirt construct, he shook his arm, sending dust and bits of stone scattering through the air.

"You guys are sturdy; I'll give you that. I've got to put a little more force behind those punches."

Hearing more approaching, he exhaled sharply, shaking off the lingering dust from his gloves.

The ground trembled beneath his feet a second later; heavy footsteps getting closer before emerging from the dense undergrowth were not just one but four more golems, each taller than the last.

Their glowing eyes locked onto him in eerie unison, and without hesitation, they began to charge. Thumbing his nose with a flick, Spark crouched slightly before smirking.

"OK, four against one? Time to rev it up a notch!"

Amber sparks crackle around his body as he charges the Chaos Energy within him; the sparks intensify into a fiery aura before he blinks out of existence in a golden flash.

The forest trembled as four thunderous impacts shattered the silence. The stone golems were launched skyward, their massive forms momentarily weightless, a blur of mirages marking where Spark had struck each of them in the same instant.

Still airborne, the hedgehog curled into a ball of razor-sharp spikes, twisting at blinding speed. He hung suspended for a fraction of a second, then in a crackling burst of energy, he shot forward.

An explosion of sparks and stone erupted as Spark tore through its torso, obliterating it on impact.  The shockwave sent jagged debris flying in all directions as he ricocheted off the remains, already homing in on the next target.

The second golem barely had time to register the attack before another blow cracked through its body from the Homing Attack.

Rebounding once more, he uncurled mid-air, flipping with precision before planting both feet squarely onto the third golem’s head.

Power surged through his form as he pressed down, Chaos Energy crackling wildly around him. The sheer force drove the golem into the earth with a loud crash, its body crumbling into dust from the overwhelming power behind the kick.

Flying through the air, he reached the final golem with his arm cocked, and with a yell, he drove his fist straight through its head, decapitating it in a single, earth-shaking blow. The last golem’s massive stone head crumbled into dust, the remaining body swaying for a brief moment before toppling backward with a resounding crash.

Spark landed gracefully a few feet away, his golden aura flickering before dimming slightly. He rolled his shoulders, dusting off his gloves as he surveyed the destruction left in his wake.

"Well, that was fun."

He flicked his wrist to check the interface on his bracelet. He was still a good distance away, which was a pretty good pace considering that it's only been a few minutes.

"Maybe I can enjoy the scenery for a bit before reaching the objective."

He mutters in a thinking pose before nodding, making the decision to take his time. With that, he crouched low, Chaos Energy crackling around his feet. Then, in an instant, he shot forward like a golden comet, weaving through the dense forest.
