BNHA: Just A Passing-By Kamen Rider

CHAPTER 4

-

“““A Quirk assessment test?!”””

The students yelled out as Tsukasa immediately zoned out, not wanting to listen to whatever drama was going on. Instead…

KATCHIK!

That is one hell of a sky right now. So clear, and the cloud formations are amazing. And with the extra trees in the background? He whistled at the picture that came out from his Polaroid camera. Damn, he was good at finding these photos.

BOOOOM!

The sudden explosion caused him to look up from his photo. Huh, there were residues of a sweet smell everywhere, and a whole lot of smoke. Eraserhead raised a display towards the class. 705.2 meters? That’s decent, him in costume would have dwarfed that though.

“ — Whoever comes in last place in all eight tests will be judged to have no potential, and will be punished with expulsion.”

Eraser Head’s face right now was really scary, that evil smirk on his face. His finger itched on the shutter button, but he pushed down the feeling, it was rude to take a picture of a person without their permission.

Oh, Eraserhead is beckoning him… To a racetrack. Ah, a speed test, alright then. Following him, Tsukasa was paired up with this girl with headphone jacks as her ear lobes.

Loosening up his joints, he got into a racer’s position and took a breath in. Focusing on the Rider Energy inside of him, he made the energy flood his legs, feeling the power energize his legs, cells, blood, and muscles.

Breathing out through his teeth, he waited for the signal, the whole world around him disappearing as his concentration reaches its peak with his vision only focused at the goal.

BANG!

As soon as the signal was fired, he dashed as fast as he could, pumping everything into his legs. Taking large but quick strides, he crosses the goal with the robot beside the line beeping.

“[4.56 seconds!]”

Skidding on the ground to stop his momentum, he took a few deep breathes to calm his heart before he nodded to himself. That was a good time. Hey, this was actually kind of fun, he could finally not hold back without using Rider Energy.

He grinned at the prospect, wiping his hands off the dust that gathered from his sudden burst of speed, before walking back to the group of students to make way for the other students who were going to start their run.

“Yo, cool guy! That was a really good time! What’s your Quirk?”

A pink-skinned girl suddenly invaded his personal space, so he took a step back before taking a better look at the girl. She was a medium heighted girl, with a good build for a girl her age, and her yellow eyes surrounded by black sclerae. On top of her head were two pale yellow horns protruding outwards.

… She would be a good model for his pictures. Hmm, that skin colour would need a bit of strategic placement though, no sunset pictures. Wait, that would make it better, no? That exotic pink and the golden red sunray as the background with those eyes, that was good material right there.

“Hello? Are you there?”

Blinking at the tapping on his shoulder, he gave a sheepish smile.

“Ah, sorry, was thinking of how to make your picture great.”

“Picture? You’re a photographer?”

A second voice of a girl caused him to turn his head at the direction… Onto to see nothing. Wait, he looked lower. Oh, she’s invisible. That would make taking their potraits a nightmare…

“Yes, I do photography as a hobby. Makes money too if the pictures are nice looking.”

He materialized his camera into the real world as the pink-skinned girl suddenly stole it from his hands.

“Wow, it’s pink, like me!”

“It’s magenta, I’ll have you know!”

Snatching it back from her hands, he shook his finger towards the pink one as his voice now increasing slightly in tone with passion.

“Pink has yellow in it, while magenta is 100% magenta! The difference is substantial!”

Saying his peace, he tossed the camera behind him without a care, causing the two along with the other students watching to yelp at the sudden toss. The glasses boy even tried to catch it from the air, but it suddenly disappears into thin air.

“And for my Quirk, it’s called Dimension Storage. I can keep anything in a pocket-dimension and can take them out anytime I need to. Example…”

In a blink of an eye, a soda can materialized in the air, his arm shooting to grab it before tossing it away to summon a backpack. Another toss, and clothes appeared. This went on until he was sure that they now know what his power did.

“That’s sick! Do the things you store have an expiring date then? Do they grow mold and rot?”

A guy with red spiky hair asked with interest. Ah, this was something that he tested back in the day. And the answer was — "

“Yep, they still rot like normal. And no, I can’t store any living things inside, plants included.”

“Then how did you clear the track in 4.56 seconds? You don’t have a speed Quirk like him, kero.”

This time, a green-haired girl with a frog face asked while pointing at glasses boy.

“I train and eat my vegies.”

He grinned at the deadpanned look the girl gave. Sorry, but this will stay with him until something fun happens that requires him to explain.

Eraserhead stopped their conversation with a glare, before ordering them to head to another section of the sports ground. This time, there were equipment that measures their handgrip strength.

Each person took one and did their test. Looking closely at the grip strength device, he channelled his Rider Energy before squeezing as hard as he could. A few seconds later, a beep sounded from the device.

270 kilograms. Not bad either. He reset the device with a button before testing it with his normal strength. 102 kilos. That’s better than the average, he thinks, nice.

The rest of the tests were boring. Side-steps, sit-ups, seated toe-touch, long-distance run, long-jump, with the last test being the ball throw. All this time he had been doing it without much Rider Energy usage, so his scores during the few tests were slightly above average.

This one he was excited about, so he saved as much Rider Energy as he could for the test. His turn was after the green-haired kid that decimated the 0-Pointer robot.

From what he saw, his Quirk harms his body with that black and blue finger of his. Too bad though, that Quirk was powerful too. Eh, maybe he’ll find a way to train it, maybe even get a support item to reduce the damage.

Stopping his daydreaming the moment Eraserhead glared him, he played with the ball on his other hand, tossing it up and down to get used to its weight and size.

Should he use his cards? Eh, no need. He’ll get a good score even without it.

His left leg outwards with his right at the back for stability. He tilts his body and raises both arms to the sky, with the ball transferred to the right hand. Lifting his left leg up, he took a deep breath before using 90% of his remaining Rider Energy to strengthen every part of his body.

Finishing his enhancement, he moved, his left leg slamming to the ground as his body followed suit. Using all his strength on his arm, he cocks the hand back before snapping it forward like a whip, the ball blasting to the air with sonic booms in its wake.

A few seconds go by before Eraserhead showed him his result.

453.145 meters. He was satisfied. Rolling his shoulder joint to get rid of the slight uncomfortable feeling, he walked back to the group of students.

“I’ll tell you the results quickly. The total is simply the marks you got from each test, it’s a waste of time to say it out loud verbally, so I’ll just show you the result all at once.”

With a press of a button using the same device that Eraserhead used to calculate the ball throw distance, a hologram came to life from a slit in the device, showing the scoring of the class.

His eyes darted around before whistling. 4th again? That’s pretty creepy, 4th in the Entrance Exam and then the same position once more? It’s a sign of some sorts.

“Oh, by the way, I was lying about the expulsion.”

Silence surrounded the sports ground.

“It was a simple rational deception to draw out the upper limits of your Quirks.”

Another second of silence, and then screaming happened.

“Of course, that was a lie. It was obvious if you just though it through, no school would expel a student without a good reason.”

Tsukasa stared at the home room teacher’s expression.

“No, he was being serious.”

All eyes turned to him, but he continued staring at Eraserhead.

“His face says it all, he was totally serious about the expulsion.”

The smirk on the pro hero’s face widened and threatened to go above his eyes. The class screamed once more, with the 20th placed kid, the green-haired boy, crashing to the ground on his knees with tears in his eyes.

That would make a emotional photo, “The sorrow tears of relief”, he could see the title very clearly in his head.

“All of you have potential, it would be irrational to kick you now when that potential could be moulded into something more. Anyways, we’re done here. Grab the syllabus handouts and textbooks when you get to the class, look over them. And Midoriya, have the old lady fix you up in the nurse’s office.”

Handing the green-haired boy a doctor’s notice, he walked away back into the school building.

Phew, he felt exhausted with the low reserves of his Rider Energy. Stretching his back with a pop, he started to head back to class alone, leaving most of the students to talk amongst themselves. Two students followed him back though, the blond kid with explosions and the half red and white guy.

Weren’t the talkative types, he respected that.
