2025-12-04 01:18:48 +0000 UTCTo clarify, I think saying “Oh it’s all because this one guy is an asshole/warlord/despot” is not a satisfying of explanation, because if society is evolving in a certain way, then generally you would expect such a figure to get deposed, or for competition to make them irrelevant. They need to have some fundamental influence in society for them to maintain the status quo.

Maybe it’s because the tower itself is so much rougher, or maybe they just had some powerful people use and abuse the masses at some point in their history.” I think this is a very important point to explore from a worldbuilding perspective. One of the key things that isn’t explored is how/why society works, both in the blue and red towers. There’s a lot of open questions right now that don’t seem to have good answers: 1. Why is the climber’s union so terrible and weak but still maintains a stranglehold on information? 2. Why are there taxes when moving down floors? E.g. what difference in incentives causes this difference between towers? 3. How does the overall economy work, especially in terms on crafting and the technological and material developments needed to achieve their current standards of living?
