Changes to Upload Schedule
Added 2025-05-29 12:03:05 +0000 UTCAuthor’s note:
Really long note ahead, so I apologise in advance. Only the first part is of practical significance, so I would advise just reading that and moving on.
‘To Devour the Crawling Gods’ has finally made it to the end of its First Act on RR, and will be reaching Chapter 100 on Patreon. It is my first proper story on both Royalroad and Patreon, and I would like to thank everyone who supported it.
I shall get straight into the matters of its future schedule/changes before I convey my more personal thoughts on its future.
Chapter updates will be changed from daily to three times a week (Friday, Sat, Sun) starting from the month of June. This applies to both RR and Patreon.
That’s the practical matter out of the way. The rest of the note is more of my personal rambling, so you can skip it.
~~~
The reasons for these changes are several, not all of which are positive or can be easily fixed. I have a strong personal attachment to this story, but I’m not blind to its many faults or the recent problems that have arisen from it.
I will still continue posting — if nothing else, the chapters are already written — but I am unable to keep up the daily pace unless I start compromising other aspects of my life. I understand that the significant reduction in future chapter uploads is disappointing, and I apologise for that.
Should the story meet future success, I will aspire to bring it back to daily uploads — or at least increase the pace of weekly schedules, such that I can meet content expectations.
There are other avenues I wish to explore in writing as well. Some of you may be aware of my other ongoing/abandoned works and my attempts to branch into other genres. I would like to continue them — or even try writing new ideas — while keeping ‘To Devour the Crawling Gods’ as my primary project.
It is my hope that my writing will continue to entertain while also being a means to make a living. Whether you continue reading on RR, become a Patreon, or abandon the story, thank you for giving my writing a chance in the first place. It really meant everything.
~~~
If you wish, you can read my other abandoned/ongoing works for free (to maybe offset the loss of daily chapters, at least for a while). I will post the links and a brief description below. Although they are on another site, you should be able to read them without the need to create an account or any other hassle:
My Gestalt wife from the future keeps giving me brain damage (Signalis fanfic; Post-game, 100k+ words; First Act complete) (The first work I ever posted, and somehow arguably my best. Contains tragic lesbians, a non-functional polygamy, and horror.)
Nascent Godkillers (Pokemon Grimdark/Realistic AU; 90k+ words; First Act complete) (Sort of a prototype to ‘To Devour the Crawling Gods’. They share similar writing style and dark themes. If you enjoyed ‘To Devour the Crawling Gods’, you might enjoy this one.)
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/nascent-godkillers-pokemon-au.1183561/
God Emperor, Save me from this Useless Goddess! (40k Space Marines/Konosuba crack fic; 25k+ words) (A dumb idea that got moderate success. This one's more stress relief humour writing for me, but it gained some popularity.)
That’s all I have for now. Thanks for reading this far.
~~~
And now, my more personal thoughts on the matter:
I had aspirations of becoming a full-time writer, but it has since been made clear to me that such dreams are not allowed by others. If I continue walking down this path, I will likely bring my life into self-destruction.
And yet, knowing this, I have decided, perhaps foolishly, to continue writing, trying to make that dream a reality when every rational argument tells me to quit now and put my efforts elsewhere.
There are a few of you — reading this post right now — who know what I am alluding to. Those who are responsible likely do not care. I am one of many authors facing the same problem. I therefore do not matter.
I do not know how long I can keep writing, but until that final day comes, I will post regardless of what is stolen.
There is nothing else I can do.
2025-06-03 07:36:54 +0000 UTCThank you for your words. I'm sorry for the late reply. It has been a tough week. Regarding discord servers, I have given some thought into it, but as I'm relatively new to writing, I'm not sure how to manage one, or what responsibilities it would involve. I had planned to make one, once paid Patreon members hit 50. But given the circumstances, I am not certain it will grow any more. For more communication, it is the same with discord, in that I plan to provide more engagement once the story hits a certain mark, including votes for specific side-content chapters and such. For the moment, I am monitoring the Patreon's growth and seeing how badly it is affected by recent events. Regarding the subscription price, I had hoped the large number of advanced chapters would justify the cost while also providing substantial content to those who like the story. This is a mistake on my part. I am not sure how I will be handling things going forward, but regardless I am thankful to hear you are enjoying the story so far. Honestly, if you have any advice on how I can grow my Patreon, I would like to hear it.
2025-06-03 07:35:58 +0000 UTCSup. Wasn't aware you had some history on sb. Thought you were completely unknown until you dropped your banger on rr. Your story is pretty unique, never seen a such a comfy blend of grimdark horror and romcom before. Makes me nostalgic for the old days spent reading romcom light novels. About the numbers talk, I'm sure you already have great advice and resources available from fellow authors already, but throwing my 2 cents as a reader here: - Do u have/ have plans to make a Discord community server? A place to chat with fellow fans would be nice. Might eat up a little bit of your time but it can run itself. - More communication, more personality in general ig. Would love to know what's the guy writing the banger I'm reading like. The author could be just as much a brand as his story. - The subscription is more expensive than the norm. I don't care because I love this and am already locked in, but someone new will definitely hem and haw and be turned off by the price. All that said, you've got a gem on your hands, and I wholeheartedly wish it success. The more successful it gets the more you write it, after all! Keep up the good work!
