2024-12-20 23:37:53 +0000 UTCemma! it hurts my heart to hear how disheartened that experience has made you feel. but if it helps i want to offer some things i have learned from quitting college (if you don’t want it, feel free to not read. but i post anyway bc it might help someone else): - we are SO young. work/school life makes us feel like it goes by so fast but really it doesn’t. there is our entire life ahead of us to try new things and find something that sticks. - it’s my understanding that the major is graphic design? correct me if wrong. but if graphic design is something you like and care about, nobody else can stop you from doing it. even if you don’t have a degree in it, nothing stands in your way of doing it. lots of famous musicians today were denied by music programs before they got famous (not just saying that, i have examples, just feel weird naming them). if you like to do graphic design and it makes you happy then you are a graphic designer regardless if you were accepted into that specific program, only you get to decide that. - if something doesn’t work out, in my experience i find that i end up liking the alternative much more. i really feel like rejection is redirection. you’re not “not good enough”, being an artist i understand it’s so hard to hear a no. art is such a personal act it feels hard not to take criticism personally. everyone will feel the way they feel and we can’t control that, but it really isn’t about us or our art, just how they perceived it. i really hope you feel better soon! you have a whole bunch of people on the internet rooting for you, whatever you put your energy into 🤍

2024-12-20 22:42:44 +0000 UTCi have a similar story! i was in college for years switching between different majors until i quit bc i hated how i felt doing it. i spent the next whole year traveling the world (which i had never done before) and bettering my mental health. and now i am on the best path for me, i’m a singer-songwriter now and im moving to a new city and i’ve never felt so free. quitting was one of the best decisions i’ve ever made

Bad financial decision for me but life turned out great. I've got my own business with multiple employees, my wife works with me from home, I've got a house, a car, three dogs. I would've liked being a teacher but life would've been so much different. It all worked out and it will work out for you too.
