That's what I meant; he forced himself to believe she was able to save his reputation, but all it did was cause him pain. In reality, Ruby sees Basil as a wall and tried to push him away so Abe was able to move forward, not caring for Abe’s feelings at all, so we got have points rejecting his friendship made Ruby less worthy for him and she doesn't want that so that's why.
