135 - Enchanted Forest

Good day Denizens of the Tower.

These days I have been working on this forest encounter map. It looks pretty and all but it is a real accomplishment for me. Brought possible after months of practicing and your generous support in my art. I tried new color schemes and techniques, you will see in this map some stuff I usually didn't do before, mostly because of not really knowing how to.

I added mist/fog. Some plants are submerged and transparency of the part under water looks great. I also added some illumination with fireflies!

This encounter map is great for a Feywild adventure, and enchanted forest, and really any forested area with a touch of magic. I included versions with and without grids. Black and white and a special one with no fireflies. The maps' dimensions are also compatible with Roll20. Like with other "generic" encounter maps, this map pack includes no background lore.

Let me know if you like this illustration's style and if you'd like to see more Feywild- inspired locations.

Hey Rainer, check out the new map. It's that church with a lab underneath you were talking about.

To run the old Monty Python bit, I would like to seeeeee.... More desert locations!

well a laboratory under an abandoned church sounds like a kickass dungeon

Ahh well, personally, I run a semi-realistic medieval low magic campaign. City/Town/Country buildings and features are my preference and the hardest to find decent assets for. Houses of various socioeconomic levels for pilfering, tavern and craftspersons shops(usually with kitchen and sleeping quarters upstairs), tannery, artists workplace. As you probably recall I prefer separate assets so I can move/remove stuff around relative to the Harnica town layout PCs are in. Unfortunately, I use Paint.net and Roll20 so the Photoshop stuff isn't useful to me(I think). An occasional beast lair/cave, campsite, salt mine, small keep, or dungeon is fine of course. My next adventure deals with a biology mage secreted in underground abandoned church, She has created an intelligent plant life that feeds on animal carcasses and blood. It yearns to the feel the sun and has been sending roots up to breach the ceiling, sunlight however will greatly harm the plant. When the PCs seek the now dead(of natural causes as the plant loved it’s creator) mages advice the plant being rather hungry will likely attack. During a break in the action the PCs will observe the plant sending tendrils down several shafts. Cracking and grating of rock sounds ensure (tombs/coffins being forced open). Roots will be seen to be pulling up the bones of dead priests, warriors and their weapons. It will assemble these into parodies of skeletons intertwined with thorns, its tendrils acting as muscles and tendons each with a controlling vine leading back to the plants core. Upon looting the PCs may find other blood fed plants/seeds that: grow into caltrops/darts/arrows/staff, a growing wedge used to force open doors and containers, ground spike traps, one that grows into the shapes of people, defensive thorns, trapping vines, etc.
