[WRITE-IN] Firelink Episode #57

It's going to be a pretty laid-back week on Firelink this week, so we're going to spend a lot of time answering your questions and comments on tonight's episode!

Send in your thoughts, questions, or topics you'd be interested in us discussing! We won't have time to read and discuss everything, and please keep posts topical, safe for work and not huge walls of text.

Submissions close at 6 PM CT on Thursday, March 6th.

[WRITE-IN] Firelink Episode #57

The mention in last podcast about possibly doing a series covering videogame failures I wanted to suggest a little pointy look towards a content creator who's been building a respectable portfolio of vids sometimes with inside sources too: Matt McMuscles and his 'What Happun' series, I reckon would be a good team up even if only for a one-off. Latest video for an example is Jet Force Gemini: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o67qqTwYHHs ------+------- Unless there's some controversy am unaware of, shouldn't be any issues, haven't seen anyone vocalise negative opinions about it yet πŸ€žπŸ€žπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ₯‚

Overzealous Euthanasiast

Any tips for locking into a game when you find yourself bouncing around a bunch? I'm worried I'm playing four games and won't finish any of them.

Steady Goblin Wood

I imagine Jack is the answer here. He is very much against emulation and piracy (which is an opinion that, in my view, comes from a place of privilege) and he constantly boasts of all the doodads he has to get his old hardware running on newer displays and sound systems.

Brazil has invested quite heavily in the tech sector, funnily enough, which includes games. At last year's Latin whatever fest during the summer, the ratio of Latino-made games was in favor of both Brazil and Argentina. And not mobile crap, real games. I imagine it takes only one of them to take off and I can imagine that in the near future.

I just want the following: a pickleball update, including the type of paddle Nick uses, and if Nick (again) has seen Rob Roy and why not? It's on Amazon Prime for free right now and it's right up his alley. Marty, back me up, man. I'm doing my homework, teach.

I played It Takes Two with my daughter and she always wanted to be May (cause May is a girl) so I've never played any of the May content in that game. I'm pretty excited for Split Fiction since I'm pretty sure I'll be able to talk her into swapping characters to try new play styles. Who is your Second Wind pick for Split Fiction co-op?

Mrjaco12

I think Undertale would be a good way to teach kindness/pro-social ethics.

Evening all, hope your days were good! Given that all humans learn through play/ games do you think video games could or should have a bigger role in adult learning (not necessarily academic learning or gamified mobile learning)? What would you want to teach a person or group through a game?

Blackmage

Do we get a pickleball update? Also, would you be willing to talk a little more about the publishing consulting arm you're introducing through second wind? I do understand if you want to keep that stuff off the main channel, though, so no worries.

Bookworm776

Hey guys! Given the success of books / films being adapted into games: Witcher, Lies of P, Doom map 'MyHouse.wad'. Is there any book or film you guys would like to see adapted into a video game that would really fit the medium? If so, what genre or studio would make it? I'd love an open-world game based on 'Naussica: Valley of the Wind' Balancing human war with the toxic jungle.

Blistered Soul

Are there any countries that we should pay attention to for new games? Kingdom come deliverance from the Czech Republic was a surprise. Do you think we'll see games from the Middle East or Africa soon?

Jeffrey

What is the jewel in the crown of your respective collections? Also Marty have you stopped buying Dreamcast games?

LookItsAnEric

I do a mixture as some games are either too expensive to obtain, fiddly to get running or beat without save states, or simply only fan translated as they never saw western releases.

Inverse Skies

I’m curious if anyone on the team still uses original retro hardware (ie from the 16 bit or n64 era) or if it has all been replaced with emulation.

Inverse Skies

I love the experimental stuff you've been doing on the Patreon. Do you see those as just fun breaks from the usual, or do you consider them pilots for future projects/spinoffs/new directions? Keep up the great work!

Antiphar

If you guys could each pick a series/franchise/IP/whatever to either revive from the dead with a new sequel or drastically change the direction for because it's gone off the deep end, what would you want to see?

plz help

Have Marty use his pub trivia hosting skills to quiz the chat on some Vidya game trivia

Some ideas: -quick rundown of what Lost & Found is -update on industry layoffs in Q1 vs. 2024 -Marty convincing Nick to play Portal 2 -update to your video game fantasy draft -diacuss what a Second Wind game award show or Game Jam would look like -RAT BEEF

Is there any game that you liked but spent so much time on in that you dread the sequel? i spent 200 hours in base MH worlds (no iceborne), skipped rise, played the wilds demo and I still felt like it was asking too much of me to do it all over again.

Lugaliguori

I want to know what y'all liked from Next Fest! (Thank you Nick for your picks in Unpacked) It was a busy work week for me and I didn't get to try many demos. I feel like Ruffy and the Riverside is a very Marty kind of game.

TooManySpreadsheets

Would video games still be a part of your life if you didn't have jobs in the video game industry? I asked Yahtzee this on the Fully Ramblomatic Blu-ray Patreon Q&A so was curious what ya'll say

Lil' Cass

EA released the source code for several Command & Conquer Games, unlocked Steam MOD support, and basically handed control to the very passionate community. I know RTS is a blind spot for SW, but Nick has some familiarity with Generals & Zero Hour. Thoughts? And did anyone (though most likely Nick) play the demo for Tempest Rising?

Steven Simzak

Just watched the Animal Well doc and it helped me think of a question for Nick. If you could go back in time and do a doc on any game with no restrictions on who is interviewed and what they're willing to disclose, what game would you make a doc of?

Pixel Grip

What's the upgrade you think got the biggest "glow-up" throughout a series? As in it started bad when it was introduced, but became better or more interesting in later entries.
