Yahtzee Finally Explores His Feelings | Semi-Ramblomatic

Here is three from me; > Best New shit that works well (so best game mechanic or new way of using a mechanic so that it now kicks arse) > best immersion feeling when in a game (as in total losing of hours in the game as it is such a good world/group of characters) And one bad one > most disappointing / overhyped

I’d like a game Razzies. “Game that most failed to invoke the emotion it was aiming for” (TLOU2) springs straight to my mind or the opposite of the porn award: “Most unnecessarily porned-up game” (Soul Caliber 6 just taking a layer off every female character and shortening all their dresses)

Love this format! Defintely more useful than a regular "Best Puzzle/Action/RPG" etc as I usually decide on what to play based on mood rather than genre (although they sometimes go hand in hand). Would love something like an "Imposter" award, best game that makes you feel like someone else (e.g. Spiderman, Batman, Indiana Jones, The Witcher etc). Less Mass Effect where you get to decide the characters choices but more a game where there is a set character built out and you have to act in line with that character.

It's always nice to hear from Jack. Regardless how much he tries to disguise his voice... 😉😎☮️❤️

Best game that made you want to be tourist

I’d be down for the traversal category. The Mirror’s Edge award.

Looking forward to Yaht's take on Harem Hotel in 2025.

"Games that made me feel accomplished" A "your choices matter"-game in which your choices actually matter. A game that gives you far-reaching choices but is also strict in terms of consequences and shows them to you. It did not release this year but "The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante" comes to mind for me.

Game categories are weird. Some of them feel more like thematic genre descriptions (horror, action) whereas other hew much closer to gameplay styles (soulslike, puzzle, visual novel). I think when we ask ourselves what the categories should be, we should consider what an audience is looking for. Is it “I feel like a funny game?” Or “I feel like a soulslike?” I do like the feeling-based awards. I hadn’t considered that, but it seems like a valuable way to evaluate the game.

I have so many feelings on this that I'll be thinking about it for a while now, thanks Yahtzee

"Best game with actual friends" might be a good category, for people you actually enjoy playing games with. Although I imagine it would be hard for Yahtzee to score. ;)

I wonder if “ best game to make me feel connected with other others” might work for party based games like Metaphor .

I'm in favor of a porn game award category, but I think the award should go to the one you'll still play after you get off, because a lot of porn games don't really have good gameplay. The other categories would be good additions, but how about some more negative skewing ones? "Game that made you engaged" or "Game that made you lose faith".

Porn, eh? Fuck it, why not? I've played some porn games before and gotten really immersed too. Some favorites were "The Ramen Prince" a visual novel with some pretty strong writing and deep characters, "A Peasent's Quest" an action rpg in medival fantasy, and "Love Genex" a hybrid rpg visual novel with anime mutants and superheroes. Thinking about it, the games I listed were good because they explored more than the pornography they were depicting. I suppose that's because each one put effort into creating a real world with more than sex, where I felt that my choices were part of a greater narrative. And, besides, isn't porn supposed to be fantasy anyway?

Im having a hard time articulating "best game that has an awesome world that draws you into its immersion"

Christopher Hosking

In all seriousness, I think giving an award for best companions or characters that are easiest to like would be a cool idea. As for the Indiana Jones thing, that might be just best all rounder. Jokes are constantly made at the expense of games that try to do a lot at the same time but I think it's worth giving credit where it's due, acknowledging when all of those systems work well together
