Dev log #8 November
Added 2020-11-27 07:59:20 +0000 UTCHello,
So, I know that I said the game will release this month even without the 2nd PC but I didn't' take Daz's unbelievably long "opening" times into account.
For example, I have scenes that have 7 characters in them and it takes 28 minutes (Yes, I timed it) to open it up.
28 minutes to open up a save file. Just ridiculous.
"Can't you open it just once and render from there?"
The way I work is like this:
I create scenes over the day and render them through the night with a "Batch-renderer."
It's like a render queue and it is awesome.
But the queue obviously needs to load them all after another which leads to only 6-7 images rendered a night because it spends like 3 hours just loading save files. (And to me losing sleep because when I cannot hear the fans of my PC, I always think Daz crashed.)
In comparison, I also have scenes with only two characters in them and I can render up to 22 images a night.
Daz seriously needs to get this under control.
FYI: I also have Daz etc. on an SSD.
All the still images are done. (1720 +) I still need to put like 20 of them into the queue but that's not much and should be done in one or two days.
Then all that is left is the cinematic, which I think will take around a week, and during this week, I will already test and polish the game.
The game also has a working phone now.
I also bought a "Spyder". It is used to calibrate your monitor and I hope it will help with future postwork etc.
Till now it only confuses me more.
The update is now on 99% with the last cinematic being the 1% that is left.
I also learned a lot about photography in the last few days and I am excited to use my knowledge in Chapter 3.5.
In the near future, I am going to take some English writing courses to also get my writing to a new level.
As a non-native speaker, I still struggle with finding the right words sometimes.
But all in all, I would say Chapter 3 is considerably better than Chapter 2 in everything.
And here are two more previews.

Anyway, I am so glad we are finally at the finish line.
PS: Oh and till now I wasn't able to acquire a 3090. I am not able to spend 2000β¬ just like that on a custom model because this is like 5-7 times my current "useable" support. (After rent, taxes, and living expenses are deducted from my total 1600$ support, I have around 300-400β¬ left a month to invest. I do have the money but there is a risk I will have to pay 100% of the rent for a few months. (Currently 50%).
I would go for the Founders Edition (1400β¬- sold out) but 2000β¬ is too risky right now.

2020-11-27 15:53:09 +0000 UTCOcean, you might find this article by a fellow VN developer interesting regarding how to cut down those loading times. Good luck! https://www.thunderlinestudios.net/blog/end-daz-studios-terrible-loading-times

2020-11-27 15:09:52 +0000 UTCOcean, thanks for the update! The renders look Great! Hopefully Daz gets their act together and fixes the loading time issue. The delay in loading saves would be unacceptable if it occurred in a corporate setting so it is unacceptable here as well. Now... what will Daz do about it?

2020-11-27 09:38:23 +0000 UTCHi Ocean, many thanks for the update! Loading times of 28 minutes is really ridiculous. If we would deliver our application with such waiting times, then our customers would tell us, go back to work, this is a bug. The CGI movie industry would never accept such timings. It would be too expensive for them. I wonder why the maker of Daz3D think that this is acceptable. One small improvement might be possible if critical data is copied before the rendering to a RAM disk. (But I don't know the amount of space that would be needed.) Never the less, please go on. Ein schΓΆnes Wochenende und viele GrΓΌΓe, F.
