Chapter 3: Dev log #1

Hello,

2. Hand-sculpted character + preview



1. Octane is dead.

As I told you guys, I was transitioning from Iray to Octane.
But, Octane broke my heart.

I did spend 90% of my time fixing bugs in Octane. Trying to find workarounds, etc. 


I then saw that many bugs were already there in 2017 and earlier versions.

So, I asked myself the question.. "Do they even plan on fixing it? I am paying Full-price subscription." and I came across this post. 

This was the last nail in the coffin.

There is no way I will dedicate money, let alone time into a dead-end plugin. 


But I always viewed Octane as a stepping stone to much better software.

Blender.

I certainly learned quite a bit about Materials, Nodes, etc. from Octane and this knowledge won't go to waste.


My plan is now.. to finish "Summer's Gone Season 1" in Iray (Daz) and while I am doing this, I am slowly but surely learning Blender on the side.
I already started converting the first character into Blender and I will, of course, keep you guys updated. 

SG season 1 goes up to Chapter 10/11. 


2. Hand-sculpted character + preview


As I probably stated in the last post, I am also getting more and more into Zbrush and sculpting in general. 

For those who don't know, Zbrush is a sculpting/manipulation software. 


I am still a very much beginner to this software and I actually never had a real interest in "sculpting", etc. but the thought of really unique characters and the ability to deform them to your liking, made me get it.


But let me introduce a new character you'll meet in Chapter 3. 

She's hand-sculpted by me and please keep in mind..
I didn't go for beauty on her.. I added asymmetry, imperfections, and other things, to make her look more realistic.

I guess that's it for now. The next post will include more previews. Currently, I only have 60% of my resources on SG. (WiAB is on like 99% and after that, I will dedicate the other PC to SG, too. We should see a rapid increase in rendering by then.)
