Cleaning Up After The Ancients - Chapter 106

Chapter 106 - Maybe a Monday

The trek from the secondary control room to the computer core alongside copying of the database had taken Eventus less than fifteen minutes. Which meant he had been translocated onto the bridge before the rest of SG1 had even been able to finish docking and make it up there themselves.

Who he had not beaten, was the pair of medical officers that were in the midst of strapping the unconscious Lieutenant Womack onto a stretcher.

“What happened?” He asked in concern.

Pendergast looked away from the med team to turn a glare on him. “We were hoping you could tell us. She screamed something and passed out right before you muttered that thing about a psychic fear monkey?”

Eventus blinked, processing the man’s words for a moment before walking over and kneeling down next to the stretcher.

“Do you mind if I check her for a moment?” He asked the medical officers.

The older looking of the two, a man who’s namepatch labeled him as Marksu Slater, glanced over to Pendergast who gave a cautious nod. “All right, just be quick.”

Reaching over Eventus laid a hand on the unconscious woman’s forehead and closed his eyes to focus on his healing sense.

“It looks like she just has some perforations in her ear drums, some minor bleeding in her brain, and a tiny bit of hyperactivity in her amygdala.”

He took a moment to glance over at the woman’s station where a pair of wired headphones were dangling off the arm of her chair before nodding to himself in confirmation of the likely source before turning back and focusing fully on healing the damage.

All together it took him less than a second to heal her various problems, though even without his powers she likely would have been fine. Outside of the persistent night terrors at least, but it was doubtful those would have persisted for more than a month or two.

Lifting his hand away he offered the medical officers a tired smile. “She should be good now, though if you're anything like Doctor Beckett I expect you'll want to examine her yourself before declaring that.”

“It's standard procedure.” Slater muttered as he went back to securing the Lieutenant.

“Now how about you explain what happened in there.” Pendergast all but demanded as Eventus pushed himself back up to his feat.

“With the psychic fear monkey?” Eventus asked to be sure.

“With all of it.” Pendergast bit out in clear annoyance.

That was a fair question all things considered, Eventus just wished he had a better answer for the Colonel then the one he was going to give. “I overfocused on the logs, and completely forgot about the psionic murder residue.”

It was the type of stupid mistake that made it abundantly clear to Eventus that he needed more than just a couple of days off. Unfortunately that wasn't really something he could afford given the sheer number of potentially apocalyptic events currently at play.

“And that led to everything that happened… How?” Pendergast pressed.

Eventus sighed. “Because I only agreed to Doctor Jackson’s request because I thought it would be an easy in and out with the only real problem being the occasional housecat sized creature trying to eat me.”

“In contrast to the psychic fear monkeys.” Pendergast said in deadpan.

“There was only one of those.” Eventus offered apologetically. “And it was more annoying than dangerous. The real problem was the class three. See, the classification system for dimensional horrors rates them, as one might expect, on their general level of capabilities.”

It was a bit more complicated than that of course, but he didn’t want to spend the next hour going over everything to do with the maintenance corps classification system.

“The general gist of things is that class one and twos are basically dangerous animals whose only real threat is from their physical capabilities. Class three’s however are dangerous animals that also possess psionic capabilities.”

And class four’s were intelligent psychic animals, but like the psychic fear monkey their danger level was highly variable based on a number of different factors.

“The one I fought on the station created a type of spatial distortion field around its body that deflected pulse weapon fire and seemed to be somewhat corrosive to energy fields in general.”

It probably wouldn’t have done good things to his body either, but that was what personal shields were for.

“And these things are normal?” Pendergast inquired skeptically.

“Only if you’re regularly punching holes into the higher or lower dimensional planes without taking the proper precautions.” Eventus reassured him.

“That doesn’t reassure me nearly as much as you’d think.” Pendergast muttered as Mitchell and the others walked in.

“Hey.” Mitchell gave a two fingered wave to Eventus as walked over to take a position next to the other Colonel. “Did we miss the big boom?”

“No.” Pendergast admitted, glancing over his shoulder to shoot the man a small smile. “I've been waiting on your team.”

The Colonel turned back and motioned to the officer at the helm. “Marks, take us back to a thousand miles from the station.” He glanced over at Eventus. “Is there anywhere in particular on the station that we should target?”

“The three decorative looking equidistant circles on the station's upper surface.” Eventus told him. “That’s where the subspace taps are, and even though they’re shut down, hitting them with a naquadah enhanced nuclear warhead should cause enough secondary explosions to take out the station entirely.”

Pendergast nodded. “You heard the man, three mark eights, and let's see if we can hit the bullseyes."

Eventus maneuvered himself behind the weapon officer so he could watch the destruction through the ship's sensors instead of his own eyes. A move that got him a brief side eye from Pendergast but thankfully no objection.

“Targets locked and warheads are armed, sir.” The weapons officer announced.

‘Then you have my authorization to fire, Veroni.” Pendergast said.

With a nod the Veroni typed a final command into his station, and with a shudder that reverberated through the ship’s hull three missiles streaked out towards the station.

The weapons crossed the thousand miles between the ship and station in a handful of seconds before impacting the designated points on the station with three bright flashes of light that momentarily lit the bridge and washed out the sensor display.

“I’m reading secondary explosions across the station.” Veroni announced as the sensors cleared up.

“Well that shouldn't be happening.” Eventus muttered, tilting his head slightly as he watched the opalescent glow of uncontrolled dimensional energy oscillate across the station's surface alongside the rapidly accelerating number of secondary explosions.

“Problem?” Pendergast asked.

“Maybe?” Eventus admitted uncertainly. “It really depends on wh–”

A giant tentacle burst out of the inside of the innermost ring as the oscillation seemed to reach its peak, and Eventus was left to stare at the appendage in exasperation as it waved around wildly for a moment before the entire station seemed to crumple in on itself and vanish in the distinctive manner of a dimensional implosion.

“Huh…”

“Is that a good huh, or a bad huh?” Mitchell asked cautiously.

“It’s an, I guess it’s not our problem, huh.” Eventus told him, more than a little relieved he could now just call the whole thing a day. "So how about we head back to Earth? And if anyone has screaming nightmares in the next few days, please report them and I'll see what I can do after I get back from my vacation."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Author’s Notes: It’s not really his fault, there were just a few undocumented experiments on the station. But he’s done with this bullshit, because tomorrow his vacation starts. And lo to anyone who tries to mess with that because he is not going to be shy in showcasing his disapproval.

Comments

is it weird that i kinda wanna see Eventus throw hands with a Prior, like "put em up bitch, 1 on 1 lets go!"

Chapter 107: Someone messes with Eventus holiday. Lets face it we all know it's coming

Jarrik32

Probably sent that station to the warp.

As fun as dimensional shenanigans are, can we get back to Eventus and future encounters with Goa'uld and Priors alike?
