Somewhat controversially I dislike Ethan but again that has nothing to do with his gender…I’m just not a fan of his personality or behaviour. 🤷🏻♀️ Also, I wouldn’t say that Keane “played her” - he genuinely liked Hailey at first but once he started to realise that his feelings lay elsewhere he backed away. He’s acknowledged fault for unintentionally hurting her and apologised. I understand her being upset at the rejection but rightly or wrongly she comes across as bitter and quite nasty here.

2023-03-03 15:01:02 +0000 UTCoop I hit send before I was done but anyway, Keane assured her that Lynx totally wouldn’t have feelings for him (which, as we know, is totally incorrect), but he left suddenly with little explanation without saying anything definitive about whether or not he also wanted to be in a committed relationship or be physically intimate, and then likely didn’t text her or anything at all that night or throughout the whole next day (and in fact probably forgot about her because he was too busy being an adorable gay mess trying to figure out how to kiss Onyx). if Hailey has my typical anxiety when it comes to relationships, I imagine she’s spent the last 24 hours or so trying to analyze why Keane left so suddenly yesterday and hasn’t contacted her since, and she was probably debating with herself whether it was because of Lynx or because she messed up somehow, and either way she’s gonna feel terrible and insecure and very very lonely, plus likely also feeling stupid and childish for not being able to let it go and not worry about it until Keane gets back to her. I imagine by nighttime she was just totally emotionally exhausted and overwhelmed and went to the park to cry, then decided “screw this, I’ll call Keane, and either he’ll comfort me and tell me he wants to go steady and that I’m just overreacting, or he’ll back away and I’ll know for sure that he doesn’t really have feelings for me even though he told me that he liked me.” it’s not the wisest move, but it’s understandable for a teenager with a lot of anxiety 😅 she wants to hope that Keane truly loves her and wants to be here for her, and yesterday she made a really vulnerable move establishing how she feels about him, but in her heart of hearts she’s terrified that she’s just a distraction from the person he really loves, and she’s crying and bitter and doing hurtful harmful shit throughout this scene because her worst fear is coming true and she’s not emotionally prepared to process that in a more mature, healthy way (though hopefully she’ll learn from this life experience (“oh god why did I react like that, I was such an asshole”) and she’ll be prepared to handle things a lot better if this happens to her again!)

My heart!!! I love, love, LOVED this part…his absolutely certainty (once it hit!). When be realised that the reason he found “Lynx” fascinating and kissing Onyx “f*cking mind blowing” is because he’s in love with Onyx. Also it dawning on him how much Onyx’s words matter and how protective and jealous he feels. Because he’s in love with HIM! I did a little dance, ngl! 💃🏻 Reassuring too for all those who were worried (which I totally get) that his feelings might be because he likes only Lynx and not Onyx. I love that he’s recognised and defined the Lynx thing as “fascination” and a product of his attraction to and love for Onyx. In a similar way to how Onyx considered (many chapters ago now) that he wouldn’t mind dressing up that way again if it was for Keane. I thought that too. Thinking about it, why was Hailey crying in the first place to call Keane all of a sudden? We know now, Ethan told her everything about him and Lynx/Onyx. That is probably what set her off. I feel like Hailey has probably been in love with Ethan all her life, but he never made a move. Obviously we know it's because he's gay, but she doesn't know that. Then, along comes this naive, bright-eyed high school boy who starts paying attention to her, saying he likes her. If you think about it, Keane was always going to be a "rebound" for Hailey and her unrequited feelings for Ethan. She was always going to use him as a safety blanket and coping mechanism. He was a distraction for her, a backup, because she couldn't have who she REALLY wanted. She knows what she was doing I'm sure (hence her being extra angry and taunting Keane). Now, Ethan hooking up with Lynx/Onyx stings for both her and Keane. For her, this new "girl" comes along, barely tries and hooks Ethan just like that. Now, the guy she was trying to rush into a relationship with (to get over Ethan), actually likes said "girl" in question (Lynx/Onyx). She's essentially been rejected by two people. Unbeknownst to her, it has nothing to do with her, rather, she's just not their preference. For Keane, after taking eons to realize he's in love with his best friend, he comes to find that he's now going out with Ethan. After all that time of dragging Onyx along in his shenanigans, epically failing with Hailey, he probably thinks it may be a little too late (but we all know it's not, hehe). I can admit what Hailey did here was not very nice, but Keane isn't completly in the right either. While trying to court Hailey, he kissed onyx MULTIPLE times without even telling Hailey after they started going out. Even if Keane didn't see that as serious, that's something Hailey deserves to know if he's trying to date her. Honestly the only thing Hailey did wrong in the situation is tell Keane about "lynx" and Ethan, which obviously is meant to hurt him, but she's hurt and upset, and it's also the truth? It's not like she made it up to upset him. We all make mistakes, and what she did wasn't cool, but 1 mistake doesn't make someone horrible. The only reason ppl are so mad at her is bc she dared to be a romantic rival in a bl comic. I'm quite sure if she was the main character, we'd all be on her side. (No hate to the author, I think she's doing amazing. I'm more disappointed in the commenters.)

Omfg, it was so beautifully written, the expressions on their faces were so well done and all the emotions literally radiating from the page…just…UGH!!! How can you do this? (Yes, a Lizzo reference…) I can’t believe we are finally at the point where they both clearly know they love each other!!!! Obviously this is still only the beginning of this crazy ass rollercoaster with everything Hailey just said about Onyx and “Lynx” (which I’m pissed about but I’ll get to that in a minute). I’m so so so happy Keane is finally admitting it!!! Go baby, go! Run, don’t walk, RUN to your boys house, knock down that effing door and kiss him!!! (Ik this won’t happen but I can hope)…. Now, onto the whole Ethan and “Lynx” thing….I just…UGH! I have mixed feelings about all this shit…IMO he shouldn’t have said anything to Hailey about him and “Lynx” that wasn’t fair. Yes, he didn’t put Onyx or himself but the kiss between him and Onyx wasn’t anything more than that, a simple kiss to try and clear Onyx’s head about Keane. Ethan needs to realize there is NOTHING going on their, Onyx literally admitted to being in love with Keane before kissing Ethan. So no, he shouldn’t have told Hailey. Ima be mad at him for that for AWHILE. HAILEY, IK you’re upset and I can understand wanting to hurt Keane back like he hurt you but…damn girl that was vicious. Also the sequence of panels as the realisation dawns on him is beautifully done. I felt his whole emotional journey…panel by panel. My heart was literally jumping out of my chest by the end! I’m so happy that Keane is finally at this point. I know there’s still a way to go yet though and I’m beyond excited (and nervous) to discover what’s next for our boys. Ngl, I’m not loving Hailey’s behaviour at all, but I also think you captured the emotional turmoil and bitter reactivity of a 18/19 year old who has just been rejected… perfectly. A kiss doesn't make a person a couple. Consent is involved from both parties for that to be true. However, like you stated Hailey could have been venting off screen and Ethan only said that to ease her jealousy,but I still don't like it because lack of consent , and the implications of making bad guys out of two decent people for the sake of a ship. *Has throne of glass series flashbacks*

He likes Onyx and told his friend about it, while protecting his secret. We don't know what was the context of their conversation too, if maybe Hailey was venting about her worries on Keane and Lynx and he was trying to ease her angst... Hailey said those words to hurt Keane, so we can't be sure of how everything really happened. Also, yeah, Hailey was REALLY childish, but she's young and it's not unusual to have that kind of reaction when we have our first big heartache. It's easier to get mad at her than put ourselves in her shoes. I don't think what she did was right, but I also don't judge her... who doesn't have moments when their feelings are too overwhelming and end up doing things they may regret later? Anyways, all this just to say that I don't think they'll necessarily become villains to get the ship sailing.
