Youโre just finishing up moving into a new apartment, your very pretty and seemingly nervous/shy neighbor comes over with a little dinner for you as a hi welcome to the floor. You get to talking about the building, things to do in the area, movies and surprisingly they love your favorite series. Thereโs an inexplicable fledgling bond between you, but neither of you say anything about thatโฆyouโre both simply relievd to have someone with which to share the grief. You share a candle and listen to memories offered by loved ones. All is calm until a counter group throws smoke bombs, and rocks, and glass bottles into the crowd yelling slurs against people of color and lgtbqia+ identities. The counter group overwhelms the vigil group, and the police arrive to break up the disturbance with tear gas. Amid the sounds of sirens, screaming, and chaos, the two of you get separated. You finally find her huddled behind a storefront, having suffered a cut on her forehead from glass and a tear gas injury to her eyes. You get her to your car, stop somewhere safe for milk and rinse her eyes. The forehead cut isnโt deep and doesnโt need stitches. Both of you, upset and grieving, part for the evening , after you take her to her home, but over the next week, you both do a lot of talking via phone and text. You didnโt want to trauma bond, (insofar as that is possible in these circumstances), so you decide not to act on the attraction before having a real date, in happier, calmer circumstances. You go on a date for lunch and a local Black history museum.. especially enjoying the childrenโs exhibit. Seeing children of all ethnicities playing together gives you both hope, and you both join in, laughing. Acknowledging this is a happier place from which to explore a relationship, you both return to your place with favorite desserts, but get distracted by something sweeter as you kissโฆand stuff.
