While the system knows about the runes and the ritual that can be used to theoretically destroy portals, it should be virtually impossible for anyone in a world that is just now getting to C tier to perform it. Fractured body is clutch too

I guess we'll see on Wednesday...maybe

2025-10-20 15:18:35 +0000 UTCIf we think of a rift like a garden or farm i think clearing the rift is the equivalent of harvesting when the crop is ripe, like after a rift clear the system preserves the broken world in some way and lets it repopulate with whatever monsters are in there or it repurposes the leftover energy for other rifts. What alex did was basically uprooting the entire garden down to the weeds and worms and then blow up the farm. there's nothing for the system to harvest because breaking the rift destabilized the world and killed everything in the process any energy not taken by Alex was probably lost to the void or something. Am i making sense? That felt like it made sense in my head

I’m sad that this is the last chapter from Alex’s perspective and we don’t get to see what happened with him and Istrael, unless that’s the second perspective the other chapter will be from? Very excited for the conclusion and to see how things change after the (presumably) upcoming time skip. I’m also a little confused as to what happened with the rift, as I assumed he’d just be closing it, and if this is what happens every time a rift closes, then why don’t the people who close rifts via quests get kill credit for creatures left in the rift? It feels like a fairly equivalent situation, even if the System is notably more involved in the other. The notification also said Alex gained knowledge past the current parameters, but he’d known how to do the ritual for a while, and it was only now that he applied it in that specific manner that he faced backlash, which is odd if the other paths were open before but he wasn’t penalized when he used it then. I’d also thought the System said it was going hands off with stuff like this after the Sun Elves fiasco, so I’m confused as to why there’s intervention now. I assume the Istrael meeting is integral to the upcoming plot, but maybe it could somehow be reflavored as a unilateral decision on Istrael’s part to summon Alex? Or if not, I think the text on the system notification should at least be different, because this feels very far removed from the original situation he got into. Anyway, sorry for the egregiously long comment, thanks for the great story as usual!
