Writing Update & Art

Hey guys!

I hope everyone's been having a good week. I've been getting some feedback from comments on Patreon and wanted to give everyone an update based on feedback.

The short version of this post is: I'm going to try and adjust my writing and plotting moving forward to fit this format a bit better and keep things moving at a bit of a faster pace.

I just wanted you guys to know that I've heard the feedback and am doing my best to avoid making similar mistakes moving forward and finish out this book in a satisfying manner.

I've mentioned this before, but as I'm continuing to plot Book 3, I'm trying to keep this at the forefront of my mind. I can completely understand that to many people, it feels like the entire Rylan situation has really dragged on and that Alex has been too passive. A lot of this writing experience is still novel to me and is my first time writing something like this, so I (and you) can expect some pain points and hiccups like this! I've still got plenty of growing to do as a writer.

DISCLAIMER: This does not mean that there won't still be slow points in the books. I enjoy that downtime and slice-of-life style of writing and story. BUT, those moments will likely just come in shorter waves. I'll likely try to plan the story in the style of three or four shorter arcs rather than Acts, which should hopefully make things feel better in terms of pacing. There will be highs (like the peak of a wave), and there will be lows in between those peaks (downtime for Alex and the team between those waves).

Sorry if these last few weeks have felt like they're dragging for all of you. I appreciate your support SO much and want you all to enjoy what you're reading. It's been a bummer to see some of the reader base begin to bleed away over the last few weeks, and I can only attribute it to pace and the dissatisfying feeling of Alex not continuing to make progress or take action against his stressor (Rylan). I don't plan to do a large rewrite for the book, however. But within the next week, we are moving on to a bigger threat than Rylan anyway, so it should begin to feel very different soon. I have touched up some of these chapters to hopefully feel like more is happening and we keep pushing the plot forward, but I plan to finish out the last 15-20 chapters as they were planned.

Thank you again for all of your support and feedback.

Lastly, I wanted to share this art piece from Book 1 that was just finished this week.

Sometimes I read stories chapter by chapter, but I largely find it more satisfying to go through several, so there can be some chill time, action, processing, development. Whatever there needs to be, and not rushed all at once... Kinda why I set off to other stories, but then it does put some distance from the development process

Chapter 62 is a chapter from Rylan's POV that has a big reveal in the missing part of the puzzle.

The problems I have with the Rylan situation isn’t so much that the story is slow it’s that Alex’s response to it all does not seem rational. Both us as readers and Alex as a character have the same information which leaves us in the dark. Either a Rylan POV chapter or some other extraneous info chapter could be helpful to combat this
