How did you like the last 10 Chapters?
Added 2024-12-02 19:51:35 +0000 UTCIf you have the time, please leave a bit of feedback or at least vote on the poll!
If the only people answering this poll are those who have an issue with the chapters, and those who enjoyed it stay silent, to me it's going to look like these chapters should likely be changed before going live on Royal Road!
---
As I mentioned in the previous poll, I was struggling to find some sort of balance between a straight-up time skip and actually taking a ton of chapters to show all the things that Alex learned in those weeks with the sect.
For those of you that are caught up, how did you like the last 10 chapters?
Important clarification on the question being asked in the poll here: I want your feedback on the last 10 chapters and the way that the training & summaries were handled, along with a few of the more in-the-moment scenes. I know that some people have found the length of this Rift arc as a whole a bit long, but this poll is for his training time with the sect.

I got a lot of great feedback on the previous poll. Just over 100 people voted! Almost 70% of people enjoyed the chapter and about 20% of you wanted more detail.
I know that the following chapters weren't necessarily "more detailed" but they did go into more depth on what he was doing and learning. Did that satisfy what you were looking for?
These next few chapters may change a bit before they hit Royal Road, based on your feedback!
You guys rock, thanks for reading along!

I don't want to spoil anything, but I think as we get into reading Book 2, you might feel better about a lot of this :) Thanks for the comment and the kind words! I'm glad you're here reading along.

2024-12-03 21:01:18 +0000 UTCOverall I like the writing and development! Mainly I wish this arc could have been developed with one of the friendships you set the stage with before entering the rift. It would have added more emotional complexity as the characters here in the rift are likely (?) to never be seen again outside of Sam, who I don't feel like we know yet. Earlier in the story I really liked setting the emotional and relationship complexity and i feel like the new drastic gulf of power with his friends sets the stage for a protector rather than a partner relationship. I'd love to have the relationship arcs move alongside the satisfying numbers going up increase. Overall, I really enjoy your writing and stories and can't wait to keep reading!

2024-12-03 18:32:16 +0000 UTCI wasn't a big fan of the training arc, but this answer assuages the biggest fear I had.

2024-12-03 03:35:12 +0000 UTCAs Beeees said, no, he won't be #1, but it will put him as a strong contender with those who have been delving into Rifts since the month or so before Alex awakened. It had him catch up and potentially keep up with or slightly outpace some of those military units or fanatics who may have been working in coordinated groups and fighting since early on or had more resources than someone in Alex's scenario early on. And of course, there will be other people throughout the world who got just as lucky as he did. Thank you for your feedback and for reading along.

2024-12-03 02:40:53 +0000 UTCThis seems to be a consistent bit of feedback. I didn't originally write any of this with the web serial format in mind, I just wrote it as a whole book and wanted to share! However, with things moving forward so much with Royal Road and Patreon, I'll likely be trying to write and structure things in a way that feels a bit better in those formats. Thanks for your feedback and the kind words!

2024-12-03 02:40:02 +0000 UTCBoth of these comments are well said, and I can understand what you're saying. Thank you for the feedback. I will say that writing-wise, I ended up spending much longer in this Rift than originally was planned, mainly because I had so much fun building it up, and I just thought that there was so much more that could be done. I think you're also right in that in the grand scheme of things, when we're a few hundred chapters in, this will feel like a small part of the journey that let Alex build up a big foundation. It may not be super well received on RR, but overall I'm happy with how it turned out. I'm very excited for Volume 2 to be almost entirely in the real world, with just short spurts of time in the Rifts.

2024-12-03 02:35:16 +0000 UTCWell... that bums me out to hear, lol. Either way, I appreciate the feedback and your not being rude with your criticisms.

2024-12-03 02:33:04 +0000 UTCHmmm... well, I hate to be the turd in the fruit bowl. Honestly though. To me it was thin. I just got no feeling of struggle or stakes, and I wasn't that interested in the sects when I knew he was going to be out shortly. The council thing was really thin, and I think it would have been better without it entirely. It just made me question more, and a lot of the details about the rift, sects, and individuals felt like they wouldn't really withstand thorough scrutiny. Like weird uncles, you know? And Sam... Sam creeps me out. Idk what else to say lol. But that's enough from me. :) Sorry to be a turd! I'm still looking forward to the next chapters.

2024-12-03 02:15:44 +0000 UTCI love the way you said that. Your right, this rifts theme didn't feel quite right with the story and I think that is why I am so happy that we are out now. I think he learned a ton and I liked what was there but the whole tike I was kinda anxious for him and Sam to leave

2024-12-03 00:15:32 +0000 UTCTo clarify, I loved the mini training montages with the spiders. As an audience, we still got to enjoy the wonder of discovery and exploration. The narrative arc and gained mana skills felt completely deserved. My issue is with the wuxia montage itself. I love wuxia stories, but it didn’t feel in tone with the existing setting. Though the portal system plot device does give the author a lot of creative freedom, so my wuxia objections may be more of an issue with personal taste.

2024-12-02 23:56:02 +0000 UTCI feel like Chapter 52 redeemed the training montage chapters. The teen have a nervous break down made sense. Our hero only “won” because he fought smarter and not harder. It was a well deserved finale that redeemed the arc and washed away my frustrations. As previously commented, this training arc wouldn’t have been as noticeable in a finished book. My only issue is that we’re already training to learn about this new world and you’ve now spent 20% of your chapters on a side quest arc. More forgivable once it’s a smaller percentage of your total chapter count. But it’s noticeable this early on. I assume that it’s a literary plot device to give the MC an earned power up. Yet it’s still a bit much.

2024-12-02 23:40:34 +0000 UTCI the arc was enjoyable and well-paced. I originally felt it dragged a little bit but I think I attribute that to reading each chapter a week at a time, rather than the arc itself overstaying its welcome.

2024-12-02 20:42:45 +0000 UTCAppreciate the powering up. Definitely hits that numbers go up part of my brain. I think you described it well, showing breakthroughs but not the whole process.

2024-12-02 20:10:16 +0000 UTCI really loved it. It was a way for the character to grow and represented a different arc than berserker. When he returns he will be in the top few % of power with a new friend and his mana noodle val

2024-12-02 20:01:25 +0000 UTCI enjoyed the arc as a whole. It wasn't so over detailed that it felt stagnant and the details we were given gave enough understanding of what is going on that I wasn't left confused at any point. So ready for more!

2024-12-02 19:59:29 +0000 UTCI feel like it dragged a bit it wasn't awful but not great either. I also feel like he got really strong really fast I hope he didn't jump to #1 in the world.
