Glad you enjoyed my hometown! Fun to see someone experience it for the first time. Congrats on being a part of the convention!

Damn. I would probably have done the same thing, though.

Looks like you had a great time! When I was a grad student, I submitted a poster to the AGU (American Geophysical Union) Annual Meeting in San Francisco, but I didn't actually get to travel to the conference for it, so my supervisor presented it at the poster session for me. Although I’m from the UK, I have actually been to Minneapolis - I went to the 2016 Supernatural con at the Minneapolis convention centre… so I’ve walked around those streets too. Coming from a very pedestrian-oriented country, and being used to walking everywhere, it was nice to see that Minneapolis was so pedestrian-friendly as well :). Frustratingly, when my roommate and I were looking for somewhere to eat on the Saturday evening of the SPN con, we almost went to the British pub nearby, but we didn’t have enough time before the SNS concert started, so we ate somewhere else instead… and then we found out the next day that Jensen, Jared and Jeffrey Dean Morgan had been in that British pub that night and we just missed them!

I remember going to my first APA conference! It's so fun and yet I was so stressed the first time! Like you, I tend to get pretty anxious about these kind of things. I'm in behavioral analysis and clinical psychology. There's actually a surprising number of us in the psych field here I guess! It's funny how a lot of northern cities are more pedestrian friendly. You'd think it would be more of a southern thing considering the weather difference. I'm originally from Pittsburgh and it's pretty walkable or has decent public transport as well. When you mentioned it I though of all the northern cities and they pretty much all are like that. So yeah, strange since you'd think it would be the opposite!

I liked doing posters at meetings back in my grad school days (my field was Behavioral Ecology, BTW). It was much less stressful than doing a talk. If I may make a recommendation, make a point of going to more meetings in your field, especially if you did your degree online and didn't get a lot of in-person contact. More than the talks and poster sessions, just being around and chatting with people who have a passion for a subject you love is a great pleasure. (Really, even more so if you're not actively working in academia so all the pressure's off.)

Glad you had a nice time!

So fun! Thanks for sharing!

Posters are a nice, low stress way of participating in professional conventions. Congrats!
