we got more of holtz too this episode which is lookin to be quite interesting... and also scary 0-0 but damn, just shout out to our boy tim minear, this one was just sooooo well done. that end scene??? they dont even need to say anything for me to tear up </3
goodness.... now how the fuck we gonna continue Angel Investigations with a baby..? lil Angel Jr lmaooo

I hate that Darla had to die, but you can't deny that the twists and turns with her character is some exciting and unpredictable storytelling.

2022-06-11 14:41:43 +0000 UTCThe only tv pregnancy I've ever given a shit about. It's a bit of both with Darla killing herself, she knew she had nothing to offer the baby. On the one hand, she knew she wouldn't be capable of love without the baby's soul, and on the other hand the baby was dying and she didn't want that. It was her redemption moment, and by god it's the best redemption arc I've ever seen on tv. It was sad to see Darla go, but as they say always leave them wanting more. Also the whole "there will be no birth, only death" is a bit of a nod to Shakespeare which had a similar prophecy.

She knew she was unable to give birth, and she also feared that if the baby did somehow survive, that she, as a soulless vampire, would ruin his life- be it killing the child, or turning it into a vampire. So the love that she felt as a mother is why she sacrifices herself. 2- why does darla say 'this is the perfect time for holtz to show up'? Darla believes that her inability to give birth to this baby is her punishment for the evils that she did to Holtz and his family. She sees it as karmic justice, and that is why it is 'perfect' that he is showing up now. In her mind, it is to remind her that she doesnt deserve happiness or love with her baby.

2022-06-02 23:17:40 +0000 UTCAt the time that the episode aired, feelings towards Darla were probably different. She was the villain, and she was to be hated. So it would have been quite a turn to be sad about her death. One constant thing though, is that her death was sad then and now.

2022-06-02 14:32:40 +0000 UTCConventionally, prophecies in various myths and faiths. or works of fiction like this, are very often experienced in some altered state of mind or as a dream. So from that perspective, it makes sense that they're not that straight forward, they're not necessarily linear and can be open to interpretation. Just look at Cordelia's visions. Remember "Judgement"? She gets a vision of the woman and her protector, but misinterprets its intent; and only after Angel killed it and discovered it was good does she realize she hadn't sensed fear in the original vision. I also feel like, especially in Angel, that they give too much credit to "the Powers that Be" for the visions, or at this point anything else, when really that just started as Doyle's way of describing the ambiguous nature of how the visions come about. It quickly spread to become a catch-all; that when something of significance happens, it was "the Powers". It's practically become the basis of a religion. Sure, there would naturally be higher beings, entities that are more powerful than the average characters we know. We've even seen a hell-god on Buffy. But the problem with assigning responsibility for circumstances to unspecified beings that may or may not exist, is that you never actually know if or when, if ever something that's happened is their doing; especially if there's a chance they don't exist. If you don't know how the prophesies or visions work, how do you know they came from anywhere, to say nothing of the intent? Just look at this episode and how Gunn reasoned that the tPtB are actually stepping in to stop something evil from being born by impeding it from being born. It was a pure guess, one that might have resulted in the child's death had enough of the others been convinced by him. In my opinion - and this is just me opining - the visions, the prophesies, you name it, aren't strictly sent by some higher power, but are legitimate a Extra Sensory Perception; generated by the PERSON (Cordelia, Doyle, whomever). The subconscious would be aware of a virtually endless stream of possible event, local and remote; and the various potential outcomes; and it's the ones where their involvement lends to the best chance for success that an event is brought forward from the subconscious to the conscious mind
