3x06: "Billy"
Next: Buffy 6x07 on Wed 5/18
Okeeeee..... this episode was... ew 😖 The "primal misogyny" was a lot, but honestly, I really really liked how this episode was done. It tackled this topic in a very interesting way and I enjoyed it... even if Billy was kinda disgusting to me and how he made Wes act was a lot to watch, it just showed how fucked up this all is... and sadly people like that do exist :/
But yeah, super excited to see what yall think of this one and what I mention in my review :)
hope yall enjoyyyy! :D
Is it usually around now when she uploads? or is it random? i feel like itsa around this time.. aarrgghhhh!!

I am more excited by this drop than I have been in a while. Will she love it? Will she hate it? I am on tenterhooks.

Remember Billy, when he touched Angel, saying that he had never done this to a vampire before. It seems to me that it gave Angel free rein to do a little acting. He was able to make Billy think that it had the same effect as on any other man. Of course we find out that it didn't, but probably not before we thought the same as Billy.

Also, can we just appreciate that, technically, Wesley followed Cordy's advice from the beginning of the episode?
"Wesley, if you like her, tell her. Just go right up to her and hack her into little pieces."

From my perspective, the whole "primal misogyny" explanation is erroneous. Any explanation of the source of Billy's powers probably came from Billy or the Blim family at large, and Congressman Blim didn't seem much less misogynistic than Billy himself. He had a very "boys will be boys" attitude when he picked him up from W&H.
The notion that the misogyny is primal and innate reinforces the misogyny itself. If it is primal and innate, then it might have some sort of evolutionary validity, which might validate the inferiority of women in turn. "Billy just brings something out in them," is a convenient bit of family folklore not unlike the McClays' myth of demonic womanhood; it keeps the Blim women in line.
Instead, the portrayal in this episode of Billy's powers and their effects bears out Fred's perspective: "Something was done to you." The special effect when Billy touches the dudes looks like something is being absorbed into them - possibly from his blood like Wes and Fred were researching.
Moreover, Angel being able to fight it off is not dissimilar from him being able to fight off Eyghon way back in "The Dark Age." AND, Gunn was also fighting it off - he was resisting it. Fighting something off makes more sense as opposed to suppressing something.
Fred's perspective also serves to tie Wesley to Angel thematically. Wesley is now in the same state as post-Angelus Angel: he has committed heinous deeds. The question is whether or not Wesley thinks he is worth redemption.

Maybe I'm too late or someone already said it, but Alley should try and not read the production text in the beginning of next episode right?

If you liked this episode, I recommend the SF short story "The Screwfly Solution." It has a similar premise and takes things to an even darker place.

If she hasn’t watched it yet, can someone make sure Alley watches the correct version of the next Buffy? I know there are shortened versions out depending on where you watch it.

My take on the Fred going to Wes thing, is that it's in her character. Just a few episodes ago, in the Pylea arc, as soon a Angel reverted from his monstrous state, she was there, comforting him while he was sobbing on the ground.
