But dang, I really jinxed myself in the beginning by saying exactly what this episode was about lmao.. poor Dawn :'( I feel horrible for all of the scoobies.. but dang, another great/powerful episode to show the events for after Joyce's death.

Joss begged her to stick around, telling her "you can't leave yet, I'm going to kill you off in season 5". She relented, with a very limited schedule, which is why she had so little screen time in season4.
