i never did get attached to cliff in the original friends of mineral town, probably because as a kid i didn't grasp that when he leaves after the first year he's Gone Forever if you don't convince him to stay (something they changed in the remake, where he'll instead come back next year and you can probably convince him later). and also there wasn't much reason to get invested in the boys if you were playing As a boy.
perhaps if he actually had a pussy i would have cared more...

oh i definitely didn't think about it at all. i was like, 13 and under when i was playing those games, and i didn't start thinking i could be gay until i was 16, and trans until i was 19 or 20. i didn't play the girl versions bc they weren't what my parents got me + i learned they were pretty buggy so i didn't want to try them
