Ancora Bay 07 - The Pink Quarter

Is it possible to build up faster than the water can rise?

The Pink Quarter is the fanciest part of Ancora Bay, home to the wealthiest residents who want to be as far away from the rising floods as possible. After repeatedly regrading their streets, the district now sits high above the surrounding city. However, there are secrets waiting beneath the ritzy manors.

Borough Guide

In this guide, we explore the primary faith of the Markitans, the joyous celebration of Eulesabella. Drunken revelers celebrate on the city streets, bringing carnivals to every corner of Ancora Bay. Next, we peer down into the underground remains of previous incarnations of the city. Strange creatures are forming in the humid remnants of cities past, and everyone in town wants something from them.

Map

The Pink Quarter is home to the largest homes, the magnificent Azalea Spire, and of course the transference-powered Ancora Bay funicular. Peer down into the crumbling remains of the pre-regraded streets, and then visited two-sided Alina Fewbador in her pleasant manse. Construction is stretching into the upper limits of the bay, and may just push into Halfling territory next door before long.

Music

If the party plans on venturing into the dangerous Pink Quarter underground, they're going to need appropriate music. "Mosshome" is the perfect soundtrack for some luxury spelunking. There are dangerous mossy beasts in these forgotten halls, and no one will blame you if you shy away from the spooky depths. Chief Couriers also get an extremely aggressive "(Combat)" variant for intense battles with the writhing mosswretches.

Comments

You can see it has a downhill terminus in the map for Ancora Bay 03. When I run Ancora Bay in my own sessions, I explain that it was built by wealthy businesspeople but then got expropriated by the Corians. Before the city "filled up" so to speak, the slums weren't quite so slummy, so having a transit station in the lower part of the town didn't seem so odious to the rich folk.

I can understand that. I think I am just having troube seeing where it comes out, and was curious if you had an intention for who operated it. Public transport always has a big impact on cities, particularly when it seems to go from the poorest part to the most affluent, if I am reading the guide correctly.

Hey Seth! Yeah, we found there wasn't really much interesting to say about the funicular. It's just a cable car that can take folks from the edge of the coast up to the Pink Quarter. It's tricky to see from the top-down map, but the Ancora Bay hillside is actually fairly steep.

Borough Bound

I have been going through the guide and I find no mention or explanation of the funicular, or anything other than a mention in the description of this post. Is there more information? Edit: I found the graphic on page 30 of the definitive guide, but I am still not entirely clear on where it goes between or why its there.
