6/20 Status Update

This was a Netoria Tactics week for development. The majority of my dev time was spent on getting the new battle grope sprites to work. This is a pretty big new feature requiring a lot of art and a lot of coding to make it all happen. The biggest issue is one of timing. In both Netoria 1 and 2, the way gropes worked is they checked who was adjacent at the end of the turn, turned on a switch if a percentage chance roll happened, and then decided what grope to show based on what the relationship levels were and some more random chance. But with the new system I need to check instead when two characters end their turns next to each other as well and decide what grope happens immeadiatly. So that meant rewritting most of the system which means lots of bug checking, etc, etc.

The big plus of these changes is that gropes are much more immediate and visceral. You see them happen on the battle map as soon as the characters are put next to each other and then see the popin art and dialogue afterwards once the full player turn is over. I've had to make one of these sprites for every action and every combination of character classes. So For the Vashti flashing Zaman animation above, there are four different variations, Sorceress Vashti + Guardian Zaman, Sorceress Vashti + Rebel Zaman, Dervish Vashti, and Djinn Vashti. It adds up to over 50 new sprite sheets added to the game to handle all of it. I plan for this to carry over into Act 2 and 3 as well. Since I plan to work on the POVs in sequence rather then in parallel, it should be feasible to make the art for it even with the expansion in the number of character classes.

I also considered doing this for Netoria 1 as well, but I think it would be too much work. I'll keep is a new feature for the sequel. But new content for Netoria 1 is still the next thing I'm working on. Femboy Carwyn content is in full development and I've started doing the writing as well now that the art is well underway. I'm thinking about expanding the content a bit too since I originally planned a July release but it's been pushed back to August by the publisher.

In this weeks preview art, Carwyn finds new ways to pleasure Vivian now that actual sex is our of the picture. The way I'm approaching the femboy Carwyn-Vivian route is showing them adapting to Carwyn's new physique by adapting more of a lesbian style relationship. I want to keep it from overlapping with the Gwen relationship, which is more about Gwen taking on a dominant role. It's important to keep all of these femboy route variants distinct in tone and not just switch who the person fucking Carwyn is.

The general flow of the femboy content has Carwyn start off experimenting with femininity after Owain pushes him. Instead of fully transforming into a woman, Carywn instead tries to do more feminine coded things in the hope it will make him stronger. That escalates throughout the back half of the cavern levels until Carwyn unlocks the option to put on a chastity cage which fully locks in the transformation into a femboy. And then there are four route variations based on existing relationships or if you let Kobold Joe grope Carwyn.

In terms of mechanics, the route is all built around equipping items. You build up a femboy score based on how many female accessories Carwyn has on at the end of each level. The femboy points are what triggers new scenes. Eventually having enough will unlock the chastity cage item and you have to manually equip that to Carwyn to trigger the full route. Afterwards you can either choose to keep the cage on or off and there will be variants of the sex scenes that reflect whether Carwyn is locked up or not.
