If you haven't watched it yet, well, here's your notice that it's up! Join me and friend of the channel MykonosFan as we highlight our favorite comfort-food games, the kind of games that are perfect for a rainy day or a pandemic or the weekend, y'know, the usual. Check it out and then pop back to read the behind-the-scenes!
POST-MORTEM:
This was a video that Chris and I had been discussing for a couple months now, originally specifically a "rainy day video games" video. That's why it's out in April, the rainy month! There are remnants of that original idea throughout, as you've probably noticed. However, when it came time to start proper work on the video in March, the COVID-19 pandemic was very clearly looming for us in the United States, and already a disaster worldwide.
We discussed whether this was really a tasteful video to make, given the circumstances, and we came to the conclusion that we could shift the video's focus to hopefully help people find these sorts of comforting, uplifting games now that everybody is stuck at home. The list of games actually didn't change in this pivot, although the order did shift around a bit. One game that got knocked off? Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, which was one of the games that actually inspired the video originally! Rescue Team is an upbeat, warm game that we both had fond memories of playing on rainy days, but we were already looking at a pretty long video, and if we were going to recommend that viewers buy one full-priced Switch game when money may have suddenly become tight, Animal Crossing was absolutely the way to go.
Anyway, back to the video's focus shift! Originally we were only going to tangentially touch on the virus, partly because this video was meant to be an escape from that, and partly because YouTube frankly shuts down videos with any mention of COVID. That's, of course, where the Corona drinking gag came from, and that's where we started to sneak in a couple references here or there, hopefully ones that would make you laugh rather than think about the uncertainty currently in the world. I'd like to think we succeeded in that, but that's for you to tell me!
That's just about it for this video, it was a pretty seamless process to put together - Chris and I are already Similar Opinion Twins (TM) so after working together so frequently on videos we're pretty tuned into one another's styles and beats. Plus, Chris edited this one, and he absolutely killed it! From the edit to the more light-hearted humor sprinkled in, to the warmer delivery of our voiceover, even to the new camera (funded in part thanks to your contributions, so THANK YOU!) I really love how this video came out. Hopefully you've enjoyed it as much as we have.
See you next week!
